Chris Evans: “Never Say Never” About Returning to Marvel Studios

Actor Chris Evans says that he will “never say never” on a return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Evans famously portrayed the beloved Marvel Comics character Steve Rogers aka Captain America until 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame.”

In a recent interview, Evans talked about his time playing Captain America over his seven-film run with the studio. Where he made it clear that he would at least consider a return to the MCU.

“Yeah, maybe. I’ll never say never, just because it was such a wonderful experience,” Evans told GQ when asked if he’d ever go back to Marvel Studios. “But I’m also very precious with it. It’s something that I am very proud of. And like I said, sometimes I can’t believe it even happened. And I wouldn’t want the black eye if it felt like a cash grab or if it didn’t live up to expectations or if it just felt like it wasn’t connected to that original thing.”

But before everyone gets too excited, he did clarify that this possible return would be “no time soon.” Currently, Evans is hoping “to just maybe act a little bit less” and mentioned “a lot of other interests.” Since his previous statement makes it clear he is satisfied with his work as Captain America, there isn‘t much of a push for him to come back and possibly mare that. However, Evans has previously stated for him to pick up the shield again the project “would have to be perfect.”

His reluctance could also be tied to his former co-star Anthony Mackie picking up the shield. Maybe Evans wanted to stand back ,and allow another performer to carve their own legacy with the character. After all, it is what heroes do.

Mackie’s Captain America has already starred in Disney+ “The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.” He will also take the lead in the upcoming “Captain America: Brave New World,” which is currently slated to release in late 2024.
