Pappy McPoyle Back As Well As Other “Always Sunny” Favorites

Always Sunny in Philadelphia may not be everyone’s cup of tea but to those who love it, it’s irreplaceable. Recently Charlie Day spoke on the subject of Always Sunny season 18 and he let it slip that we’re going to see a lot of past favorites. Including Pappy McPoyle played by Guillermo Del Toro. In a Friday sitdown at Deadline’s SXSW Studio he talked about the ins and outs of the new season.

“We’re right in the middle of the new season of Sunny right now. I’ve got to go back tonight and I’m going to film tomorrow,”

“We have the McPoyles coming back, and we also have Guillermo del Toro coming back, reprising his role of Pappy McPoyle. It’s going to be a great season.”

“They’re all fairly large episodes. But I feel like Season 17, we got a bit of our fastball back, and we brought back the same room and had the same chemistry. So Season 18 here, I think, is going to just pick up right where we left off. I can guarantee there will be some episodes that people will love.”

The McPoyle family on Always Sunny, FX

The McPoyle family on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia are a recurring group of bizarre characters who frequently clash with the Gang. They’re strange, possibly inbred family known for their unsettling behavior. They also have a weird obsession with milk and eerie loyalty to one another. Whenever they show up there’s chaos and uncertainty as anything can happen. Liam McPoyle (Jimmi Simpson) is known for his long hair, bathrobe, and constant glass of milk. Ryan (Nate Mooney) is Liam’s brother and frequently the accomplice to Liam’s shenanigans. Margaret is their sister (Thesy Surface) is loud, has a piercing scream and is part of the weird dynamic that hints at uncomfortable family relationships. And then we have Pappy McPoyle played by Guillermo Del Toro. Personally I enjoy watching them creep the gang out with their creepy cryptic whispering.

You can watch new episodes of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia on FX. If you want older bingeable episodes funnily enough they’re housed on Disney+ via Hulu. Not really what we think of when we think of Disney but hey, it’s 2026.
