Toy maker Funko has confirmed their director and former CEO, Brian Mariotti, has resigned his position effective September 1st. That same day, he also entered into an agreement to provide consulting and advisory services to the company.
Funko made it clear Mariotti’s resignation wasn’t due to “any disagreement with the company on any matter relating to the company’s operations, policies or practices.”
Mariotti has been a member of Funko’s board since its formation in April 2017. But in July, he stepped down as CEO to take a leave of absence. A decision that had the full support of the board of directors. In the past, he has served as the company’s CEO and as chief creative officer. Until December 2022, when he was appointed to lead the company.
But that’s not to say his tenure wasn’t without some controversy. He was (arguably) one of the higher-ups involved in the termination of the majority of Mondo following Funko’s purchase. These firings included Mondo co-founders Mitch Putnam and Rob Jones, as well as senior creative director Eric Garza.
We aren’t entirely sure what this latest devlopment means for Funko. We will keep you posted on any more news as it develops.
