Mustard is normally a condiment for hot dogs, burgers, and the occasional soft pretzel. This year for National Mustard Day, it’ll be a candy flavor too. French’s is partnering with Skittles to make the tangy candy in time for August 5th. Pop-up events in Atlanta, Washington D.C., and New York will give out fun sized packs to select customers.

National Mustard Day has had some interesting food forms in the last five years. The condiment flavored ice cream and doughnuts are some of the choices French’s has offered for the holiday. The company is trying to outdo themself and provide the most creative condiment flavored foods they can.
Now I’m not going to rain on any mustard lover’s parade, but the idea of the condiment in candy form is just a little much. This trend of savory flavored snack foods is getting more than a little weird. I thought having “Shrek” green colored Hostess snacks was the weirdest thing we’d ever do to food. Even the purple and green colored Heinz ketchup was easier to swallow than the idea of mustard Skittles. All jokes aside, this is a pretty creative marketing strategy. I mean, who wouldn’t get a pack just to say that they have one.
To commemorate the holiday even more, French’s will be driving their “Mustard Mobile” around the East Coast. This tour will be offering special merchandise from the yellow custom-designed vintage bus. Fans will be able to track this tour through an online map the company will post.
