Don’t Make Us Beg: “MacGruber” Trailer and Premiere Date

You don’t have to beg here (or more) because we’ve finally got the “MacGruber” premiere date! Based on Will Forte’s “Saturday Night Live” character, the series picks up after the 2010 feature film of the same name left off.

MacGruber (played by Forte) was last seen behind bars after saving the nation in a style only MacGruber can. He had just saved the world from Dieter Von Cunth (played by Val Kilmer). After dealing with Cunth in a spectacular way, MacGruber has spent the last decade in prison.

Peacock also released this check in with MacGruber from prison.

Upon his release he realizes he must face off against a new threat, Brigadier Commander Enos Queeth (played by Billy Zane). Queeth is a dark figure from MacGruber’s past, long thought dead. In order to face this villain he’ll reunite with his previous team of Vicki St. Elmo (played by Kristen Wiig) and Dixon Piper (Ryan Phillippe).

The series will also star Sam Elliott, Laurence Fishburne, Joseph Lee Anderson, and Timothy V. Murphy. Forte not only stars but is also writing and showrunning the series. Jorma Taccone, who directed the feature film, returns to direct and showrun. John Solomon who was a writer on “Saturday Night Live” and the 2010 film also will serve as a director and third showrunner.

While “MacGruber” did not have the most spectacular performance at the box office, it has remained popular. Of note it made about $4 million dollars on its opening weekend. What reigned supreme at the box office against it? Shrek Forever After which earned a whopping $70 million dollars.

The “MacGuyver” parody / homage has almost grown in popularity since the 2010 film. There was talk of a film sequel for years but Peacock finally announced they’d be doing it as a show in January of 2020.

“MacGruber” the series will be eight episodes long. All of the episodes are set to release at once. It premieres on December 16th, 2021 on Peacock.
