Remember back when Jamie Foxx was announced as playing Spawn in a reboot feature film of the dark comic character? Yeah, that was….back in 2018? What’s kind of cool about Foxx for the role of Al Simmons is he’s actively been campaigning for it since 2013.
That said…since 2018, there hasn’t been a lot of news on the project. Sure, Spawn creator and Image Comics co-founder Todd McFarlane has been on a hellish crusade to get it made, but it seems like “Spawn” can’t quite rise. McFarlane reportedly penned the first draft of a reboot script back in 2017, which was what got both Jeremy Renner and Foxx chomping at the bit publicly to join the flick.
Which brings us to today, and the first bit of real forward momentum. A new writer has been tapped, “Broken City” scribe Brian Tucker.
It’s worth mentioning that McFarlane, ever passionate, has made claims this new “Spawn” was aiming to be “more R-rated than ‘Deadpool,'” which….actually…makes sense?
We’ll let you know what we hear about this and other news.
