This is not the type of thing we like to cover, ever. Loss of life for any reason, especially senseless gun violence, is never acceptable. We are heartbroken to report that during a screening of “The Forever Purge” in a California theater, tragedy struck.
According to local reports, a Monday night showing of the newest installment in “The Purge” franchise at the Regal Edwards Corona Crossings in Corona, CA resulted in the shooting death of an 18 year old woman, and wounding of a 19 year old man.
Only six tickets were sold for the 9:35 pm screening. The incident was only discovered when staff came in to clean the theater.
Neither identities of the victims have been revealed, as authorities are still in the process of contacting next of kin. The Corona Police Department indicated that the woman was unresponsive, and pronounced dead at the scene, while male victim sustained life-threatening injuries.
Cpl. Tobias Kouroubacalis informed local press that it was not immediately clear whether a third person shot both victims, or if the shooting was an attempted murder-suicide.
UPDATE-
Both victims have been identified, and one person is in custody. Rylee Goodrich was the 18 year old female who was killed, Anthony Barajas remains on life support.
According to KTLA, Joseph Jimenez was taken into custody Tuesday night a this home. A firearm was found that matched the caliber used in the shooting.
