If you ever wanted to know which animals farted and which did not then I’ve got some great news for you. There is now a spreadsheet with animal species listed that will tell you which animals fart and which don’t.
The list covers animals like felines, termites, different types of snakes, seals and more. Not only does it have the animals listed, but there is also a notes section that tells you what they smell like and if they can be compared to anything familiar.
It all started with a tweet.
University of Alabama Ph.D candidate Nicholas Caruso and Dr Dani Rabaiotti have compiled all of these answers in a shared Google spreadsheet.
“I figured the best way to find out if a particular animal farts would be to ask the people who spend the most time with them,” Caruso told Gizmodo. “Which includes people who study them, or maybe people who keep them at home, or just happened to hear one fart.”

Many entries are done from researchers that work closely with the animals. Some are from others since the google doc is editable. For instance I wouldn’t take the “Aliens” addition on the list too seriously or the one for Unicorns, but the others are pretty spot on. Especially the one for domestic cats because yes, they fart and it smells like steamed vegetables.

The people who made this list have a book out with the compiled information and some pretty cute illustrations. Pick up your own here. This is a good one to put on the bookshelf or have out as a coffee table book. Or maybe I’m just weird.
