Ridley Scott Still Says He’s Doing Yet Another “Alien” Film

Take this however you will, but it would seem that Ridley Scott, visonary director of such seminal pieces of film as “Blade Runner,” “Gladiator,” and that 1984 Apple Mac commercial is still hell-bent on bringing another chapter in the “Alien” universe.

Let’s take a moment to reflect on “Prometheus,” and “Alien: Covenant.” Good concepts on paper, kinda, but fan reception firmly place both films somewhere in the vein of “what the hell were you thinking, Ridley?” Add into those the disastrous “Exodus” film…we’re sort of leery of Scott in the director’s chair for a film again.

And of course, “The Martian,” while not as book-accurate as we would’ve liked (needed more peril!) it was still a wonderful adaptation of Andy Weir‘s fantastic novel.

This is not to say his tv work hasn’t been excellent, because it has. HBO Max’s “Raised By Wolves” is disturbing and exciting and everything we were hoping for, and while not a Ridley-directed project- we’re still really hopeful for more “Taboo” at some point. Also, another not-directed-by-but-produced-by-project- TNT’s “The Terror” is an experience you’ve got to have.

But this brings us to Scott’s adamant claim that he is still very much keen on making another “Alien” film. While speaking to Forbes this week, the 82-year old had this semi-update about the franchise:

“That’s in process. We went down a route to try and reinvent the wheel with Prometheus and Covenant. Whether or not we go directly back to that is doubtful because Prometheus woke it up very well. But you know, you’re asking fundamental questions like, ‘Has the Alien himself, the facehugger, the chestburster, have they all run out of steam? Do you have to rethink the whole bloody thing and simply use the word to franchise?’ That’s always the fundamental question.”

Sooooooo do we trust him to make another? Do we WANT another?

We do highly suggest picking up the Alien 40th anniversary 4K when it’s back in stock.

Mary Anne Butler (Mab) has been part of the fast-paced world of journalism since she was 15, getting her start in album reviews and live concert coverage for a nationally published (print) music magazine. She eventually transitioned to online media, writing for such sites as UGO/IGN, ComicsOnline, Geek Magazine, Ace of Geeks, Aggressive Comix (where she is still Editor-in-Chief), Bleeding Cool (where she was News Editor), and now Nerdbot as Editor-In-Chief. Over the past 10 years, she’s built a reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band with an international presence. Though she be but little, she is fierce.
