I've been critically reviewing fandoms and geek culture for eight years. After spending four years of college focusing on literary analysis, I now apply that passion to my hobbies and love for the geekdom.

“Filming on the first Dune movie has been completed, is “in the can,” and there’s been a wrap party. Some actors are already working on other projects, and saying great things about how Denis Villeneuve ran the movie sets.”

Today it has been confirmed that filming has officially wrapped on the new version starring Oscar Isaac, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, and Jason Momoa. This update comes to us from Frank Herbert’s son, Brian Herbert, who took to Twitter to let us all know this (see above quote).

“Filming on the first Dune movie” suggests that we are indeed going to be getting more than one film. Which we are more than excited for. This has been a long time coming.

It will be November 2020 when we will finally witness this epic big-screen adaptation of author Frank Herbert’s masterpiece sci-fi novel series Dune.

As for plot, we assume that it will be following the first half of the novel at least as Oscar Isaac’s Duke Leto Atreides begind taking over the dangerous desert planet Arrakis (AKA Dune). He does this for control of the most valuable substance in the universe dubbed “the spice,” a drug which extends human life and provides accelerated levels of thought. From there, the plot leads to all-out war.

What do you make of this news? Can we patiently wait a year before the official release? Let us know in the comments!
