On paper, the idea for “65” seems like it could work. Adam Driver (“House of Gucci””) versus dinosaurs? What’s not to like? Turns out a considerable amount. In spite of being a major blockbuster there’s a good chance you haven’t heard of it so here’s the official synopsis: After a catastrophic crash on an unknown planet, pilot Mills (Driver) quickly discovers he’s actually stranded on Earth…65 million years ago. Now, with only one chance at rescue, Mills and the only other survivor, Koa (Ariana Greenblatt), must make their way across an unknown terrain riddled with dangerous prehistoric creatures in an…

The latest Apple TV+ film, “Sharper’,” has several elements that could’ve made it a modern classic thriller. Yet somehow in spite of a killer cast including Julianne Moore, Sebastian Stan, Justice Smith, John Lithgow, and newer to the scene actress Briana Middleton, the film fails to find an edge. Directed by Benjamin Caron (“Andor,” “Sherlock,” “The Crown,”) and written by Brian Gatewood and Alessandro Tanaka it’s not as if the film lacks pedigree both on screen and behind the camera. “Sharper” centers around a complicated web of con artists and affluent marks. Perhaps the greatest flaw is that it doesn’t trust…

Your “Magic Mike’s Last Dance” experience is going to heavily depend on how committed you are to having a good time. Followers of the franchise might discern that the third entry into the series tries to return to a bit of the form of “Magic Mike.” To jog memories: while the first contained considerable visual entertainment of a certain nature, it also had grittier plot points driving the film forward. Meanwhile “Magic Mike XXL” focused more on the campy camaraderie between the bros. “Magic MIke’s Last Dance” sheds all of that like it’s trying to cut weight for an upcoming…

If you’re like us you were (and maybe still are) very confused about who “80 for Brady” was aimed at. The film stars a quartet of legendary actresses, the youngest of whom still qualified for her AARP card 26 years ago. Don’t get us wrong they are absolutely the reason we went to see the film, and the reason we didn’t walk out. Living legends Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, Rita Moreno, and Sally Field star as a group of friends who become obsessed with Tom Brady. When the Patriots are headed to the 2017 Super Bowl the women are determined…

We sat down with “Wednesday”’s own Sherrif Galpin, Jamie McShane, to chat the supernatural, parental expectations, and Tim Burton.  Most recently, you might recognize McShane as the town of Jericho’s lead law enforcer. “Wednesday” took the streaming platform by storm, ranking the #2 on the Most Popular (English) TV list with 1.237 Billion hours viewed in its first 28 days. In addition to his role on the hit series, Jamie has also made waves as Cameron Hayes in “Sons of Anarchy,” Sergeant Terry Hill in “Southland,” or as Eric O’ Bannon in “Bloodline.” Hailing from New Jersey, we chatted to…

The top question we have for the new Jennifer Lopez led “rom-com” “Shotgun Wedding” is who is this for? We are absolutely fans of some of her other turns, “Maid in Manhattan” is a great movie and we won’t hear otherwise. However her latest, in which she stars opposite Josh Duhamel, is severely lacking in both romance and comedy.  Additionally, watching it under the lens of “Wait, Armie Hammer was supposed to be the male lead?!” raises even further questions. Were they going to address the age gap? Were these characters still going to behave in such a mind boggling…

Wondering why you haven’t heard a ton about “The Son” in spite of a star studded cast? Unfortunately it seems that there’s a good reason for this film remaining off the awards radar. Written and directed by Florian Zeller, and based on his own stage play of the same name, the film perhaps would have been better off sticking to the boards. Zeller’s first film, “The Father,” was an emotional piece starring Anthony Hopkins as an aging man dealing with deteriorating memory. Hopkins and co-stars Olivia Colman, Imogen Poots, Olivia Williams, Rufus Sewell, and Mark Gatiss all turn in strong…

We had the chance to sit down with Everett Downing and Patrick Harpin, the co-creators of the new Netflix series “My Dad the Bounty Hunter.” Everett and Patrick are animation industry veterans who’ve worked at studios such as Pixar Animation Studios, Sony Pictures Animation, Blue Sky Studios, and more. Everett also co-directed the Academy Award winning short, “Hair Love.” We chatted with them about classic sci-fi and animation inspiration, role models, mixing styles, and dimbos (aka dad himbos).  Listen on Apple Podcasts You can stream the entire first full episode now on YouTube. More about the series: “My Dad the…

There appears to have been a lack of self awareness when “A Man Called Otto” producer Tom Hanks allowed himself to star in the film. The film is based on “A Man Called Ove” which is a Swedish novel that has already been adapted to the big screen once. The previous adaptation was actually nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and Best Makeup and Hairstyling.  While we haven’t seen the previous celluloid interpretation, we can certainly say this about the American version: Tom Hanks is (seemingly) too nice offscreen to make this role work. “A Man…

“The Pale Blue Eye” is a middling tale of the woes of a fictitious Edgar Allan Poe. Scott Cooper brings the 2003 novel of the same name by Louis Bayard to the big (and streaming) screen. Harry Melling stars as the fictitious version of Poe, who is enrolled at West Point. Who would’ve thought that of the “Harry Potter” actors, Melling would be in the most prestigious projects (including “Queen’s Gambit”). Christian Bale plays Augustus Landor, a former military man turned detective. The film sits in a middling place between occult obsessed and crime caper. Willing to commit to neither,…
