Host of the We're Watching What?! Podcast

We blame “Sonic the Hedgehog” for giving us actual expectations for the sequel “Sonic the Hedgehog 2.” Prior to the release of the first film, we were absolutely convinced it was going to be a disaster. Our predicted best-case scenario was that it was going to be so bad it was good. We can fully admit when we are wrong. The first film was fun, funny, and had a surprising amount of heart. Given the success of the first, a sequel was inevitable.  Unfortunately, said sequel doesn’t quite live up to the first one. Perhaps it’s because our expectations for…

“Squid Game” creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has announced his next project – tentatively titled “Killing Old People Club.” At Cannes Series Writer’s Club, Hwang said he already has a 25-page treatment in the works.  Apparently, it will be “even more violent than ‘Squid Game.’” Based on the title, we’re hoping for a role for O Yeong-su. Season 2 of the record breaking series is already in the works at Netflix. The first season of “Squid Game” became the streaming platform’s most watched series of all time. It spawned a horrifying abundance of costumes, strange recreation attempts, and way too many impressively…

We were incredibly lucky and got the opportunity to chat with the directing duo DANIELS (Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert). We’re also mind boggled by the opportunity to speak to stars Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan, and Stephanie Hsu. Believe the hype, “Everything Everywhere All at Once” is one of the most original and wonderful films we’ve seen in a long time. You can find our full review of the film here. It’s recommended you see “Everything Everywhere All at Once” before listening as there are some plot spoilers. Parental expectations, filming challenges, and approaches to filmmaking are all up…

Michelle Yeoh is here to blow your damn mind in “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” The film is the latest brainchild of DANIELS (the directing duo composed of Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert). At its core it’s a simple story of a woman trying to pay her taxes. However it’s wrapped in a brilliant maximalist wrapper.  Yeoh plays Evelyn, a Chinese American immigrant who never got to realize her full potential. She’s facing the horrors of a tax audit (executed by a barely recognizable Jamie Lee Curtis). While trying to balance the stress of the audit, her deteriorating relationship with…

We had the opportunity to chat to “Turning Red” Director / Writer Domee Shi and Producer Lindsey Collins! It’s no secret that we adored the latest Pixar film. You can find our full review here. But the short version of it is we found the film to be refreshing, authentic, and a whole lot of fun. We chatted with Shi and Collins about celebrity crushes, awkward teenage years, and of course- complicated family dynamics. There was an incredible amount of common ground that came up during our discussion. Listen on Apple Podcasts More about the movie: Disney and Pixar’s “Turning…

Watching the trailer for “The Adam Project” felt slightly misleading. Based on the wholesome seeming attempts at awe inspiring, we thought the film would be geared towards younger audiences. We were thinking more along the lines of Jon Favreau’s “Zathura: A Space Adventure,” or Robert Rodriguez’s more recent “We Can Be Heroes.” We probably should have reconsidered this hypothesis given that “The Adam Project” comes from “Free Guy” collaborators Ryan Reynolds and director Shawn Levy. None of this is to say that the film is bad, but it does get stuck in a sort of age gap limbo.  The premise…

The brilliance of Pixar’s “Turning Red” lies in the hands (or paws) of the protagonist Meilin Lee. The 13 year old girl is one of the best protagonists we’ve seen on screen in a long time. She succeeds because she’s more than a caricature. Director / writer Domee Shi has infused the character with life (often drawing from her own experiences). Everything feels authentic for Meilin – from her friendships with her pack of BFFs, to her complicated relationship with her family, to dealing with antagonists at school. The most exaggerated part of the film is of course the fact…

He ain’t afraid of no ghosts, or time travel… as Ernie Hudson (“Ghostbusters”) is the latest actor to join the “Quantum Leap” reboot pilot. He’ll join Raymond Lee in the project, which picks up 30 years after the original series left off. The reboot has original series creator Don Bellisario on board. The original series was made in the 90s, and followed Scott Bakula as Dr. Sam Beckett. He too got trapped in time though does retain his memories. He would temporarily possess the body of someone (or leap into it) and attempt to correct “historical mistakes”. He was guided…
