Feeling the FOMO from Star Wars Celebration? Fear not as you can still get your hand on some of the official Funko Pop Vinyls from the convention!  Funko had one of the more exciting presences over the event, with giveaways, photo ops, guest appearances, and bumpin ‘music. We had the chance to chat with the team about returning to events, what makes a convention exclusive special, and more.  Interview Nerdbot: What’s the most exciting thing about returning to live in person events? Ready to take home your own pint sized version of “Black Adam?” Funko has debuted their official line of Pop Vinyls for the upcoming DC Comics film starring the one and only Dwanye “The Rock” Johnson.  Johnson has been consistently posting teases from the set. We’ve gotta say from what we’ve seen so far, these look like a pretty accurate translation from his on screen look. In addition to the titular anti-hero, we also get a look at Hawkman, Sabbac, Dr. Fate, Cyclone, and Atom Smasher in their Funko Pop forms. Also what’s a Funko drop without some exclusives? Amazon…

“Fire Island” is not the first or the last Jane Austen adaptation we’ve seen. Classic modernizations include “Clueless” from “Emma” or a bevy of “Mansfield Park”s. However nothing holds a candle to “Pride and Prejudice” in terms of stories we keep coming back to. “Fire Island” is the latest such adaptation which has two modernizing factors going for it. It features a queer cast – most of whom are also people of color. Joel Kim Booster stars as Noah, our Lizzie Bennet-esque lead. He also wrote the screenplay. Director Andrew Ahn also brings his own background to the mix, lending…

“The Boys” has returned for season 3, and they are back with a vengeance. We don’t envy the show’s task; it’s tough to top the absurdity of the real world we live in. So instead, the Prime Video series continues to reflect it back at us with a merciless accuracy.  We had the chance to chat with head writer Eric Kripke, as well as show stars Karl Urban, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Chase Crawford, and Claudia Doumit. Season 3 explores the ever growing fracture between the extremist supporters of Homelander (and Stormfront) and well… the rest of the sane world.…

Animation (and Guillermo del Toro) fans might want to get themselves to France if they want to see the first footage of the auteur’s long awaited stop-motion “Pinocchio” adaptation. The Annecy Festival has long been the showcase du jour for animated projects. Netflix is bringing their A game to it this year with del Toro’s film, and a bevy of other projects. His film was announced in 2008, and you can read about some of the storied history here. The rest of the cast is rounded out by a cavalcade of del Toro regulars (and a few newcomers) including: Tilda…

If you’d told us that “Chip ‘n’ Dale: Rescue Rangers” would be amongst our favorite films of the year so far, we’d call you nuts! (That’s a little rodent humor for you). The live-action / animation hybrid is a clever and boundary pushing romp. The film features the titular chipmunks as actors who happened to star in the hit series “Chip ‘n’ Dale: Rescue Rangers”. Time has not been the kindest of mistresses for the duo. It’s a sharp commentary on nostalgia and the modern fame machine as we follow these two gumshoes in their modern lives. Listen on Apple…

Pixar has announced their latest film will be called “Elemental”. Their 27th feature comes from director Pete Sohn who co-directed “The Good Dinosaur.” He is also the voice of Emile in “Ratatouille” and will be voicing Sox the robotic cat in the upcoming “Lightyear.” The studio described the film as: “In a city where fire, water, land, & air residents live together, a fiery young woman & a go-with-the-flow guy will discover something elemental: How much they have in common.” Sohn says it was inspired by his childhood growing up in New York City. He grew up the son of…

We’re pretty sure it’s okay to feed these folks after midnight: meet the human voice cast of the upcoming “Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai.” Series writer and executive producer Tze Chun announced that actors Ming-Na Wen and BD Wong will voice Fong and Hon Wing respectively. They are the parents of Sam Wing (who will be voiced by Izaac Wang) – Sam is the same shop owner we eventually meet in the 1984 film. The show will also feature absolute legend James Hong voicing Grandpa. At 93 and with over 650 film credits, Hong finally received his star on the…

The “Crazy Rich Asians” universe is about to get richer, as it seems there’s an Astrid-centric spinoff in the works. In addition to the sequel that is still in development, it now sounds like we’ll get story about Gemma Chan’s Astrid Young Teo. She’s the fabulous cousin of Nick Young (Henry Golding) and as we find out in the first film [spoiler alert] is being cheated on by her husband. Those who have read Kevin Kwan’s original book trilogy will find it interesting that Astrid is getting a spinoff. Considering much of the second book (which is still being developed…

Sam Raimi has brought us the darkest MCU movie yet with “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.” To be clear, we don’t care what multiverse you’re from: spoilers should banish you to the seventh circle of hell. So, here’s our best take on the film without hopefully giving anything away.  Listen on Apple Podcasts Overall, it probably wouldn’t matter what we said about “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.” Folks would go see it anyway, and that’s totally fine. All that being said, we went in with middling expectations. The original film doesn’t quite hold up as well…
