Author: Mary Anne Butler

Mary Anne Butler (Mab) has been part of the fast-paced world of journalism since she was 15, getting her start in album reviews and live concert coverage for a nationally published (print) music magazine. She eventually transitioned to online media, writing for such sites as UGO/IGN, ComicsOnline, Geek Magazine, Ace of Geeks, Aggressive Comix (where she is still Editor-in-Chief), Bleeding Cool (where she was News Editor), and now Nerdbot as Editor-In-Chief. Over the past 10 years, she’s built a reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band with an international presence. Though she be but little, she is fierce.

I just need to start this off by saying “please, no.” Producer turned writer turned director Simon Kinberg apparently wants to go boldly into Paramount Pictures’ legacy franchise, “Star Trek.” This news comes as Sony Pictures enters negotiations to purchase fabled filmhouse and studio. Kinberg reportedly wants to step into a supervisorial role for the film side of “Trek.” The tv side is currently helmed by Alex Kurtzman (yay) and Akiva Goldsman (meh). Last we heard, there is still hope the long-gestating 4th Kelvin timeline film (with Chris Pine as Captain Kirk universe) will happen. Toby Haynes (“Andor”) was set…

America’s Dad Tom Hanks seems like a pretty great guy. From his start in comedy to his NUMEROUS Oscars for dramatic work, he is one of the greats. He also, as it turns out, is like many dads. He texted his rapper son Chet Hanks for a little intel on the recent Kendrick Lamar beef with Drake, and his response is pretty perfectly Tom Hanks. In a post to his Instagram stories, Chet shared text messages between he and his dad. “Big Main. Can you explain the Drake/Kendrick Lamar feud to me,” Tom asked. Chet responded with a fairly lengthy…

This month celebrates the 25th anniversary of “Star Wars: Episode I- The Phantom Menace.” Yes, the film has had a rocky road. The first of creator George Lucas’s prequel films remains divisive among fandom. Is it good? Is it bad? Is it a product of it’s time and director’s vanity? Or is it, as it’s intended, the first chapter of the best bedtime story ever? The trailer for “Episode i” has been officially remastered in 4K. It was re-scanned from the original 35mm negative, delivering this incredibly crisp version. LeAndre Thomas was part of the team that did the scanning.…

This just in- it appears Prime Video has passed on the Spider-Man adjacent series, “Silk: Spider Society.” This doesn’t mean it’s DEAD, as some sources indicate it’s currently being shopped around to other homes. The project was first floated back in 2018 as an animated series, then a film, then back to a series from “The Walking Dead” showrunner Angela Kang. In 2022, Amazon committed to developing the series. “Amy Pascal, Phil Lord, Chris Miller and Sony’s recent live-action and animated reimagining of the Spider-Man franchise has represented some of the most dynamic superhero storytelling in film,” head of Amazon Studios Jennifer Salke said of…

We’re trying REALLY, REALLY hard to be as spoiler-free as possible when talking about Dr. George Miller’s looming odyssey, “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.” The big thing that’s making that task so difficult is actually Warner Bros. Pictures themselves. You know that thing where a studio will continually release trailers, footage, and images leading up to a release? Sorta missing the point of a teaser ahead of time needing to whet the appetite of audiences, rather than giving the entire thing away? Yeah. That’s kinda what’s been happening with this film. This morning, UK theatre chain ODEON released what some…

First and foremost- I am extremely biased when it comes to anything “Mad Max.” From a VERY young age (my parents can back this up), I was…obsessed…with the post-apocalyptic world from the mind of the madman genius, Dr. George Miller. Making my own feral kid costume out of a destroyed teddybear, wanting desperately to be one of The Waiting Ones, all the way up to the Vuvalini and Imperators- yeah, I kinda love it all. There have been essays and articles and even university corses about how purely Australian these films are, launching a brand of filmmaking that touched cultures…
