Adult Swim addressed “Steamboat Willie” hitting the public domain in the most on-brand way possible- turning it into a raunchy animation. The short is the first appearance of the iconic mascot of the brand, Mickey Mouse. It hit public domain on January 1st, 2024. This means people can use that version of the character, without the full force of the notoriously litigious company coming down on them. As you can imagine, the internet has been having a field day with this. There is already a horror movie on the way, too. Since internet culture is their bread and butter, Adult Swim…

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Sweethearts is offering limited-edition “Situationship Boxes” of its iconic candy hearts. These boxes have blurry and misprinted candies that “are as hard to read as Gen-Z relationships.” Okay, Boomer. “Singles are taking ‘situationships’ to the next level this year, and Sweethearts is here for them,” said Evan Brock, vice president of marketing for Spangler. “The printing on Sweethearts isn’t always perfect. This is our way of embracing those imperfections in a way that taps into pop culture.” Situationships are romantic entanglements where the participants haven’t established the nature of their relationship, according to the…
Creator, writer, and star of “The Orville” Seth MacFarlane has added even more to the confusion about the show’s future. In 2023, he said odds for renewal were “50-50.” We haven’t had a lot of news about the series since then. But, we do know it ISN’T canceled, but it isn’t renewed either. “All I can tell you is that there is no official death certificate for ‘The Orville’,” MacFarlane told The Wrap. “It is still with us. I can’t go any further than that at the moment. There are too many factors.” Co-star Scott Grimes chimed in to remind…
You know the old saying “Life imitates art”? Well, “Ready Player One” author Ernest Cline and Dan Farah, who produced Steven Spielberg’s film adaptation, are about to do just that. The duo has partnered with tech company Futureverse to make a Readyverse, “a multi-world, multi-IP, interoperable open metaverse experience for mass consumers.” Yes, the book/movie about an expansive virtual reality universe is about to become an expansive virtual reality universe. Making this possibly the most literal interpretation of an IP we’ve ever seen. This new universe will also have some licensed digital props and other IPs from the 2018 “Ready…

Florida resident Paul Kerouac has filed a suit against the coffee chain Dunkin’ after a toilet exploded and injured him. The negligence lawsuit was filed on January 3rd with the state court in Orlando. Kerouac is seeking more than $100,000 in damages. In January 2022, Kerouac visited the chain’s Winter Park, Florida location when a toilet in the men’s room exploded. This left the customer covered in feces, urine, and debris causing “severe and long term injuries.” Not to mention being horribly grossed out by the fact a toilet literally blew up on him! After the incident, Kerouac walked out…
Sad news from the world of music, Rage Against the Machine drummer Brad Wilk says the band will not be getting back together. The politically driven rock band split up for the first time in 2000, only to reunite in 2007. They broke up again in 2011 only to announce a reunion in 2019, but that tour was delayed until 2022 due to Covid-19. When that tour finally came to fruition, frontman Zac de la Rocha suffered a serious leg injury during the band’s second show. He was able to push through the first part of the tour, but Rage…
The use of AI in entertainment has been a hot-button issue this year, to say the least. It was a main catalyst in the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes that brought almost all film and television productions to a halt for months. During a recent round table discussion, Sam Register, President of Warner Bros. Animation and Cartoon Network Studios shared his feelings on the issue. “Animation’s a visual medium. But so far, I haven’t seen anything AI can do visually that an artist doesn’t do better currently,” Register said when asked if he was using AI or concerned about the technology. …
Each holiday season companies roll out their seasonally specific products, then comes the traditionalwave of jokes about how limited edition Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup shapes look nothing like they are supposed to. Tampa, Florida resident Cynthia Kelly has decided to do something by suing The Hershey Company for $5 million over “misleading” packaging. Around Halloween, Kelly purchased a $4.49 Reese’s Peanut Butter Pumpkin treat from Aldi. While the product tasted fine, she was disappointed with how different it looked from the package. The orange and purple wrapper shows an image of a chocolate pumpkin with a face carved into it,…
Is it even possible to get through a holiday season without a rumor about another “Die Hard” movie? Well, yippee ki-yay, because that’s exactly what’s happening once again. According to sources, this possible prequel film will follow a young John McClane. This would be a departure from the previously rumored project titled “McClane,” which was set to be a cross between a sequel and a prequel. That one would have followed the character, originally played by Bruce Willis across 5 movies, and other characters during two different time periods. But this project was reportedly scrapped in 2019 after 20th Century was…
