Sony’s planned remake of Rodman Flender‘s 1999 horror comedy “Idle Hands” is starting to take shape. Finn Wolfhard (“Stranger Things“) and Billy Bryk have signed on to write the reboot, with Jason Reitman (“Saturday Night“) producing.
Wolfhard and Bryk may direct the upcoming feature as well. However, at this time, only their roles as writers are confirmed.
“Idle Hands” will have them reteaming up with Reitman. The trio previously worked together on two “Ghostbusters” films and “Saturday Night.” Producers for “Idle Hands” will include Jennifer Todd and Suzanne Todd under their Team Todd banner, and Gil Kenan. Maia Eyre will oversee this project for Sony.
Wolfhard and Bryk recently produced, wrote, directed, and starred in “Hell of a Summer,” which debuted at the Toronto Film Festival (TIFF) in 2023.
“Finn and Billy crushed their directorial debut and have a completely original take on ‘Idle Hands’ that captures a disaffected generation,” Reitman said. “We are excited to support them as they bring their unique take to the screen and summon the demons.”
“Our No. 1 conversation was how annoying it is to see new teen movies and how badly our age group is represented,” Wolfard said at TIFF in 2023.
The original film had a star-studded cast including Devon Sawa, Seth Green, and Jessica Alba. It centers around a high school slacker whose hand becomes possessed.
We’ll keep you posted on updates about the “Idle Hands” remake as they become available.
