Heath Andrews has been a student of pop culture ever since he found himself to be the only student in 3rd grade who regularly watched "Get Smart" on Nick-At-Nite. Ever since then he's been engrossed in way too much media with a growing collection of music, books, comics, TV on DVD box sets, and a video game collection that could rival a brick and mortar store. Prior to writing for Nerdbot he's written for Review You, MyAnimeList, and various advertising companies. Since 2016 he's run his own YouTube channel under the moniker of The Critical Android where he livestreams video games and uploads podcasts about pop culture and Frasier.

Thanks to the old fable about the Tortoise and the Hare, the shelled reptiles of both turtles and tortoises are not known for being quick and nimble. The only exception to this perhaps, is the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but that’s just common sense. How then, could a circumstance arise where a female Seychelles giant tortoise could manage to attack and eat a baby tern? Why would an herbivore hunt down prey? Why didn’t the bird outrun the tortoise? All very good questions with some legitimately fascinating answers. Let’s start with how it happened. There’s actually video of the hunt…

In the slew of under appreciated comedies of the last 15 years or so, one of the best of the bunch has to be “Eastbound & Down.” While it celebrated a good four season run on HBO and developed a strong cult following, its blend of raunch, depravity, wit, and surprising heart still didn’t get the attention it richly deserved. While Danny McBride deserves a tremendous amount of credit for his work as Kenny Powers, it’s the show’s co-creator and writer, Ben Best who also shaped the series tone in its early days. We are very sorry to report the…

Stop me if you’ve heard this before, but COVID-19 has thrown film production and release dates into chaos. There have been a number of high profile cases of this ranging from the next James Bond entry “No Time to Die,” and the legal mess that “Black Widow” has fallen into. There have also been smaller projects like the documentary about the band a-ha, which got pushed back a year. Then, somewhere in the middle of all this, is “Bob’s Burgers.” All the way back in the distant year of 2017, Fox announced that a film of their increasingly popular animated…

How do you measure the success of a television series on a streaming platform today? Is it by the number of views? The number of new subscribers? Do you look at the social media buzz it generates and the articles written about it? What about critical reviews and industry awards? Well whatever metric being used, Marvel Studios’ 2021 limited Disney+ series “WandaVision” has met many of them, and now it can add 2 Emmys to its list of accolades. Normally a limited release picture about a fictional, reclusive ‘70s folk-rock star wouldn’t necessarily draw our attention. But in this case, the reclusive musician is played by Kelsey Grammer and there’s a few of us here at Nerdbot that are massive fans of “Frasier.” Considering that we’re still waiting on that pending reboot of the beloved sitcom, I decided to wade into “The Space Between” and see how Kelsey’s latest film project turned out. In our prior article, I expressed my concerns about the film being cheesy and hokey; relying on issues about generational differences as a source of humor as…

Much has been said of the legend of Lil Uzi and the large pink diamond implanted in his forehead. Given that rap and bling have gone hand-in-hand for years, it was only a matter of time before someone decided to up the ante and put a $24 million diamond into the exterior of their skull. It was also just a matter of time before someone tried to pull a Thanos and rip the thing out. In a recent interview with TMZ, it was noticed that the aforementioned, 10 karat diamond, was nowhere to be seen on the forehead of the…

It’s time to poor one out for a long standing restaurant. Though I guess in this case, the ‘one’ that you’re pouring is going to be a Mountain Dew Baja Blast. One of the few remaining Taco Bell restaurants with the original architectural design and aesthetics closed its doors on September 7th, 2021. Built in 1967, only five years after the franchise opened its first store, the restaurant was a fixture in Laguna Beach for decades until the bell rang no more. The original design for Taco Bell attempted to replicate the kind of look of a Spanish California mission,…

If you’re a child of the 80s, chances are that when you were very young, your parents took you to see “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” when it premiered in theaters in 1990. If you were indeed like me, you were obsessed with the cartoon, the video games, the toys; all of it. Furthermore, if you’re still at this point, like me, then you left the TMNT movie having no idea what the hell happened during it. “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” is a rather unique example of a film that capitalized on a popular culture kid’s craze while doing virtually nothing to make it…
