Heath Andrews has been a student of pop culture ever since he found himself to be the only student in 3rd grade who regularly watched "Get Smart" on Nick-At-Nite. Ever since then he's been engrossed in way too much media with a growing collection of music, books, comics, TV on DVD box sets, and a video game collection that could rival a brick and mortar store. Prior to writing for Nerdbot he's written for Review You, MyAnimeList, and various advertising companies. Since 2016 he's run his own YouTube channel under the moniker of The Critical Android where he livestreams video games and uploads podcasts about pop culture and Frasier.

Sony Pictures’ upcoming remake of 70s sci-fi shlock staple “Barbarella” may be getting a pretty perfect director. Actress Sydney Sweeney (“Euphoria,” “The White Lotus”) will star, and is also serving as executive producer. But the news today is a possible director and writer attached to the project. Edgar Wright is reportedly circling the film. He would be wonderfully suited for this kind of project given his previous work. His “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” was a fantastic adaptation of the graphic novel series, and “Barbarella” was originally a French adult comic. His Cornetto Trilogy (and “Baby Driver” ) show his…

When the subject of television institutions is brought up, there are always a few big names that routinely make it into that conversation. In the realm of comedy, and specifically sketch comedy, there is no other name like “Saturday Night Live.” When it premiered in 1975 with its “not ready for primetime players,” it became a hit that was often imitated but never surpassed. There were some times along the way where its fate was in jeopardy, but as it approaches the end of its 49th season, its broadcast network, NBC, has some plans in store to ring in its…

The epic poem, “Beowulf” is one of those pieces of storytelling that is as revered as the ancient Greek myths. Dating back to at least 1000 AD, it tells the tale of the heroic titular warrior and his battle against the evil beast, Grendel. There’s also Grendel’s mom and a dragon thrown in there too, but for the purposes of time and relevance, we’ll stick to Beowulf and Grendel. In 1971, John Gardner wrote “Grendel,” which tells the events of the “Beowulf” legend from the perspective of the monster. That story is being brought to life thanks in part to…

One of the biggest news items in Hollywood over the last week has surrounded the massive media company, Paramount. It’s the second oldest film studio in the United States. And because of its mergers with CBS and Viacom, is also a part of the sprawling media company, Paramount Global. Sony Pictures is at the forefront of studios in line to wholly purchase Paramount, and this could come with some pretty major changes. If the purchase happens, it may mean the end of the Paramount Pictures studio lot. Over the last few years, we’ve seen media companies take a hit in…

We didn’t have a lot of good things to say about the “Frasier” revival when it premiered in 2023. While star Kelsey Grammer declared it to be the ‘third act’ for the titular character, we noted that not everything needs a third act, Frasier included. And while the show decided to focus on an entirely new set of actors, one of the few bright spots of the season was the finale, which brought back Frasier’s friend and former radio producer, Roz Doyle. If you were a fan of the revival, or of Roz in general then there’s some good news,…

For millions of people across the world, the late, great Kevin Conroy is the definitive Batman. His vocal performance of the Caped Crusader in “Batman: The Animated Series,” the Batman: Arkham video game series, and various other projects over 30 years left little room for others to improve on. When Conroy passed away in November of 2022, it was an excruciating and devastating loss to fans. There was some solace in knowing that he had recorded voice work for projects that would be released posthumously and while it’s not much, we now have a clip of one of those projects…

A common internet horror story is the tale of someone who notices odd things around their home. They might find objects moved around, hear noises, or notice food missing. What if the reason for all these things is that someone else had been living in the house, hiding in the ceiling or behind the walls, and becoming active while the owner was away?! Real life incidents like this have happened in homes, but what about an abandoned Circuit City? And what if we told you that part was the most benign of the story? This is a story involves a…

There was a time in the 80s-90s when arcades were a big deal in America. What Space Invaders and Pac-Man started, Street Fighter II and Mortal Kombat breathed new life into. While those glory days may be over, Dave & Busters has kept the fire burning by offering a substantive and fresh arcade experience. And you know what else has been incredibly popular lately? Gambling. So does that mean Dave & Busters is going to allow sports betting? No! That would be ridiculous. But they ARE going to let you bet on arcade games. Imagine if you will, a Street…

Those of you who are long-time follower and readers of Nerdbot know that we have a strong fondness and love of technology. We frequently report on what NASA is working on, what researchers find in the stars above, in the oceans below, and in the technology we create on this Earth. To put it another way, there’s a reason why we have a Science and Tech section. You may also know that as writers ourselves, we have taken a pretty hardline stance on the use of AI as a generator for written, visual, and audio content. So, when news started…

One of the biggest horror movie of all time was 1973’s “The Exorcist.” The themes of demonic possession, childhood innocence and vulnerability, and the battle of good and evil, God vs. Satan, made the film chilling and effectively horrifying. One could make the argument though, that many of these themes were also explored successfully in 1968’s “Rosemary’s Baby.” The events of the film set-up a number of questions about what the hell was going on in Rosemary’s apartment complex, and a new prequel is set to answer some of them. The original film stared Mia Farrow as the titular Rosemary.…
