Author: Heath Andrews

Heath Andrews has been a student of pop culture ever since he found himself to be the only student in 3rd grade who regularly watched "Get Smart" on Nick-At-Nite. Ever since then he's been engrossed in way too much media with a growing collection of music, books, comics, TV on DVD box sets, and a video game collection that could rival a brick and mortar store. Prior to writing for Nerdbot he's written for Review You, MyAnimeList, and various advertising companies.

Paul Verhoeven’s “Starship Troopers” was absolutely ripe for being made into a video game. The feature was big on satire, excessive violence, and over the top bravado. It helps that it was adapted to the screen by Edward Neumeier (“Robocop”). The film seems ready-made for a first person shooter with giant bugs, giant guns, and squad-based tactics. Despite this, there’s been a shocking lack of decent games based on the franchise. Dotemu and Auroch Digital are looking to change that. The closest thing we’ve seen lately to a “Starship Troopers” game has been “Helldivers 2.” The title captures the satire,…

It may not have been a “long” time ago in a galaxy far, far, away, but its been almost fifty years since the original “Star Wars” hit movie theaters. It was 1977, and the world was not ready for what director George Lucas was bringing. But that original theatrical version has been lost to time thanks to numerous revisions from Lucas. But, the dream of a re-release of that version will happen in 2027! Every year that the holiday season comes around again, families have the chance to watch some age-old Christmas programming. With the advent of streaming services and proliferation of home media, these airings aren’t as epic as they used to be, but for many a child of the ’80s and ’90s, these were events to remember. If only we had known at the time that one of these classics, “Frosty the Snowman,” featured a voice actor who may have been a snowman on television, but was allegedly a notorious philanderer in real life. The 1969 Rankin/Bass animated special of “Frosty the…

Convicted felon and American President Donald Trump’s involvement in the media has been a perilous subject; one that involves massive ethical and political questions about freedom of speech, mergers and acquisitions, and the future of late-night television. It’s to the point where even a seemingly inane piece of news, such as this one, is still loaded with problems about what the future of the movie industry could be. With that in mind, let’s try to wrap our collective thoughts around the comedic notion that Trump is apparently really pushing for a new “Rush Hour” film. Acting and stuntman legend Jackie…

Well, at least it’s not another Stephen King adaptation. Writer and director Mike Flanagan has seen himself behind the camera for no less than three feature films based on Stephen King novels. Not to mention, he’s also writing, directing, and showrunning a series based on “Carrie.” To put it another way, he’s making as many Stephen King projects as King writes novels. We did report he’d be breaking that string of source material with his upcoming “Clayface” project for DC, and now we can say he’ll be doubling down on that by directing Scarlett Johansson in a new film based…

The list of projects being adapted from video games seemingly has no end to it. Along with the Hollywood sequel machine giving us another “Super Mario Bros.” next year, and a third season of “Twisted Metal,” We’re also going to be getting a “Legend of Zelda” live-action movie and a half-dozen others we’re forgetting about. Time to add another one to the list as the creative minds behind the “Fargo” series and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” are developing “Far Cry” as a live-action for FX. Rob McElhenney and Noah Hawley (“Alien: Earth”) are developing the series for FX. Both…

In the history of film, few movies have had the impact on the level of “The Wizard of Oz.” The 1939 film from director Victor Fleming could possibly be the most famous movie of all time. Despite a lackluster box office performance upon its release, its airings on television eventually became yearly viewing events and cemented the film as a permanent piece of popular culture. The legend of its popularity extends to the making of the movie, which had its fair share of problems, to put it mildly. All of that, the good, the bad, and the legendary, is seeking…

When “King of the Hill” returned for its latest season on Hulu, we were thrilled. The revitalized show had kept all the humor, heart, and wit that the previous seasons had so consistently featured. There was a tinge of sadness to it all though with the losses that the cast had suffered leading up to the revival. Johnny Hardwick, who voiced Dale, passed away from undisclosed natural causes. And Jonathan Joss, who voiced John Redcorn, was murdered in an alleged hate crime. As terrible as both of these circumstances are, at the very least we can report justice is moving…

It’s a rarity for something to find the kind of pop culture success “KPop Demon Hunters” has found. The musical, romantic, action, adventure animated Netflix flick has been racking up viewing minutes, numbers at the box-office in limited runs, and throwing hits up the billboard charts in record breaking fashion. In doing so, its also been promoting messages of self-acceptance, forgiveness, love, and friendship. But because the word “demon” is in the title, a British school has banned the singing of its songs in the classroom. The Lilliput Church of England School sent a letter advising parents that their children…

More so than ever before, we live in a world of advertisements. Honestly this is nothing new, this is something that’s been happening for as long as products have been available for sale. And just as long as there have been advertisements there have been grandiose statements about what these products can do for you. No, these things are nothing new, it’s just that the delivery mechanisms and the volume of them have changed. While it’s definitely subject to interpretation, there’s no question that the deluge and effect of advertising on people is part of the genesis behind the short…
