Heath Andrews has been a student of pop culture ever since he found himself to be the only student in 3rd grade who regularly watched "Get Smart" on Nick-At-Nite. Ever since then he's been engrossed in way too much media with a growing collection of music, books, comics, TV on DVD box sets, and a video game collection that could rival a brick and mortar store. Prior to writing for Nerdbot he's written for Review You, MyAnimeList, and various advertising companies. Since 2016 he's run his own YouTube channel under the moniker of The Critical Android where he livestreams video games and uploads podcasts about pop culture and Frasier.

Throughout 2022 and into 2023 we’ve had to see a lot of great shows come to an end. This year will mark the end of “Star Trek: Picard” (maybe?), “The Blacklist,” “Doom Patrol,” and more. Unfortunately, it’s time to add another to that list. HBO’s hit series “Succession” will be coming to an end after its upcoming fourth season. “Succession” was an instant success for HBO when it premiered in the summer of 2018. Not only was it a ratings win, but critics were largely unanimous in their praise for the very black comedy/drama. The satirical and scathing look at…

Police partnerships have always been good fodder for television and film. You’ve got Riggs and Murtagh from “Lethal Weapon,” Cagney & Lacey from their eponymous program, even Turner & Hooch…well maybe not that one- Tango & Cash, there ya go! Well among the more popular pairings was found in the 1970’s television series, “Starsky & Hutch.” While the show was very much a relic of its time it has lived on in popular culture enough to produce a 2004 film based on it and has been broadcast in re-runs for decades. The duo is potentially coming back, but as a…

Long-time “Frasier” fans know the whole reason the spin-off was set in Seattle was to get Frasier as far away from Boston as possible. Cheating in video games is nothing new. Heck, cheating in any competitive environment isn’t exactly a recent phenomenon. When it comes to video games, there are a number of people who take high scores and record times very seriously. Modern Twitch streamers develop followings and revenue for their abilities and prowess. Before livestreaming, arcade high scores could lead to notoriety and fame. Enter Billy Mitchell, who used to hold the record for the highest score in Nintendo’s arcade classic “Donkey Kong.” Yes, he’s who Peter Dinklage’s “Pixels” character is based on. In trial cases, sometimes the jury deliberation period takes a while. Then there are times where they come back with a verdict surprisingly quickly. When it comes to NBC’s revival of “Night Court,” the jury wasn’t out for very long before coming back with a verdict. Even though the sitcom itself only employs a judge, we don’t think her honor will have a problem with their decision in this case. After airing four episodes across three weeks, “Night Court” has been renewed for a second season. The revival of the classic sitcom, led by the late, great Harry Anderson, is…

When Obi Wan Kenobi said “You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy,” he was referring to the Tattooine space port of Mos Eisley. What he could’ve been referring to was daytime television. What was once a bastion for game shows and soap operas eventually gave way to talk shows. This in turn gave way to sensationalized talk shows like “The Jerry Springer Show,” “The Jenny Jones Show”, and “Maury.” With those long gone, there has still been one domino left to fall. That domino is “Dr. Phil”, and the fall is happening this year. Phil…

Actress Kathy Bates is, and should forever be considered one of the greatest of the last 40 years. While “Misery” wasn’t her first film role, it broke her to the mainstream with a dynamic performance that showed she was capable of anything. Her next fete? Taking up the mantle of one of the most iconic detectives in television history- Matlock. From 1986 to 1995, Andy Griffith played the charming southern lawyer who has since become a staple of syndication and the lives of octogenarians. Well, the latter part is true if you’re an avid viewer of “The Simpsons” at least.…

Among the many beloved shows that had a weak finale, few landed with the kind of thud SHOWTIME’s “Dexter” did. From 2006-2013, audiences followed the chronicles of the serial killer with a moral code played by Michael C. Hall as he killed those who “deserved” to be killed. And maybe one or two others. The show’s finale left such a bad taste in people’s mouths, it became one of the motivating factors behind reviving the show as “Dexter: New Blood” in late 2021. While the revival season was successful, there will not be a season 2. From here on out,…

2023 may be the year that has more articles written about “Frasier” since it premiered thirty years ago in 1993. More bits of information have emerged in the lead-up to the revival’s premiere, and this latest bit of casting information may be the most interesting one yet. Just like the previous announcement revealing someone old and someone new, so does this one. And the returning character is probably not someone you expect. Die hard “Frasier” fans will know one of the recurring storylines in the show’s eleventh and final season was the pregnancy of Daphne Moon (Jane Leeves). The series…
