We absolutely love the premise of this series, because who doesn’t love to watch Richard Hammond of “Top Gear” and Tory Belleci of “Mythbusters” do the things they do? Amazon Prime Video just released the first trailer for their upcoming series “The Great Escapists,” which features both Hammond and Belleci living their best “Gillian’s Island” life, but from the point of view of The Professor. Kinda.

    Inventions, explosions, and general mayhem!

    Hammond said of the series:

“Somebody needs to take hold of Popular Science as a genre and reinvent it for a new age.  And there are only two people to do that job. Unfortunately, neither of them are available so it’s me and Tory Belleci. Working with Amazon, who have demonstrated their faith in us by commissioning this hugely ambitious show, we shall create something genuinely fresh and new on a scale of greatness never before seen. There’s every chance that both Tory and I shall make it back from the island alive and sane…Probably.”

    Belleci said:

“I’m so excited to be working with Richard for the first time. This is gonna get crazy!”

“This show is all about going to the extremes to pull off the impossible. And with this outstanding duo at the helm, I can’t wait to see what lengths they will go to in order to create a series that is sure to stun and delight our viewers across the globe,” Georgia Brown, Director of Originals for Amazon, said.

The Great Escapists launches on Amazon Prime Video on January 29th, 2021. .

Mary Anne Butler (Mab) has been part of the fast-paced world of journalism since she was 15, getting her start in album reviews and live concert coverage for a nationally published (print) music magazine. She eventually transitioned to online media, writing for such sites as UGO/IGN, ComicsOnline, Geek Magazine, Ace of Geeks, Aggressive Comix (where she is still Editor-in-Chief), Bleeding Cool (where she was News Editor), and now Nerdbot as Editor-In-Chief. Over the past 10 years, she’s built a reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band with an international presence. Though she be but little, she is fierce.
