Disney Moves Around Their Release Dates. Again.

Yesterday was a marathon of a news day, with the Disney Investor Day presentation dropping a ton of info on the upcoming releases under the House of Mouse roof. Things like multiple “Star Wars” projects, both for theatrical distribution and streaming on Disney+ (10 in total), Marvel Studios projects, Pixar, National Geographic, Disney Animation, and more. There weren’t a lot of updates about the future of the 20th Century Studios (formerly Fox) properties Disney wholesale purchased, though.

Disney animated feature “Raya and the Last Dragon” is moving up, hitting Disney+ on March 5th, 2021. Animated film “Encanto” will open November 24th, 2021.

“Thor: Love and Thunder” will now open on May 6th, 2022. “Black Panther 2,” which Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige assured fans yesterday will NOT see a recasting of the late great Chadwick Boseman‘s leading role, will now open on July 8th, 2022. “Captain Marvel 2″ is now dated for November 11th, 2022.

The two confirmed Pixar releases we have dates on are “Turning Red,” set forMarch 11, 2022. And the origin story “Lightyear,” starring Chris Evans as Space Ranger Buss Lightyear, will open June 17th, 2022.

There was only one confirmed “Star Wars” film release date announced, “Rogue Squadron,” which “Wonder Woman” helmer Patty Jenkins will be directing. It’ll hit on December 22nd, 2023.

“Indiana Jones 5,” which Kathleen Kennedy assured audiences will star the one and only Indy- Harrison Ford– is looking at a July 2022 release.

As of this morning, Disney has (understandably) once again moved release dates of some of their releases, specifically these four titles.

“The King’s Man,” “Kingsman” prequel film from Matthew Vaughn, is moving all the way to March 12th, 2021. Ryan Reynolds‘ “Free Guy” is moving to June 21st, 2021. “Death on The Nile,” sequel to “Murder on the Orient Express,” is moving to September 17th, 2021. Fox Searchlight’s “Antlers” is now undated, which sucks.

You can check out Fandango’s Erik Davis‘ tweet with more of the known dates here.

As far as we can tell, the rest of the already-announced Disney slate is remaining put. We’ll of course let you know what else we hear.

Mary Anne Butler (Mab) has been part of the fast-paced world of journalism since she was 15, getting her start in album reviews and live concert coverage for a nationally published (print) music magazine. She eventually transitioned to online media, writing for such sites as UGO/IGN, ComicsOnline, Geek Magazine, Ace of Geeks, Aggressive Comix (where she is still Editor-in-Chief), Bleeding Cool (where she was News Editor), and now Nerdbot as Editor-In-Chief. Over the past 10 years, she’s built a reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band with an international presence. Though she be but little, she is fierce.
