Zack Snyder Seems Really Excited for Matt Reeves’ “The Batman”

Unless you were completely unplugged from the internet this past weekend, chances are you saw several of the trailers released during DC FanDome. The two biggest (although we really did love “Wonder Woman 1984″) were “Zack Snyder’s Justice League,” and Matt Reeves’ “The Batman.”

If you’ll recall, the road for filmmaker Zack Snyder‘s director’s cut of Warner Bros. Pictures DC Comics superhero team-up film has been a long and loud one. Fans have been clamoring to get this particular version of “Justice League” released since the Joss Whedon-completed flick hit theaters.

The release of the first trailer for his cut was set to the WAY OVERUSED Leonard Cohen tune “Hallelujah,” causing mixed reception across the board. Some fans absolutely loved the choice, while others most decidedly did not.

Storyboard artist Jay Oliva took to Twitter to respond to Mara Wilson‘s criticism of the song choice, defending the pick.

He knows a few more songs too! I’ve heard him time to time singing a tune or two…. in all seriousness, he chose that one because of the long road it took to get here and what it meant to his daughter’s memory during post production on the film.

Snyder explained, kinda, during a stop by Reel In Motion podcast:

“It was on two years ago. … It’s a really personal song for the family, and for all of us. It’s something that I just felt that was right for this. That’s why. I just think that that song, in particular, really, for all of us, it has significance beyond just the movie. I think we all love the song and it just felt like, as I was trying to wrangle this whole thing into the ‘why’ of it, I just felt like that song was the right way to do it.“

The other big trailer reveal from FanDome was for “The Batman,” directed by Matt Reeves and starring Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne / The Dark Knight.

The Reel In Motion crew asked Snyder what he thought about a possible R rating for the film, judging from the violence presented in the trailer. Snyder responded:

“I dunno what the rating is going to be but I felt the same way [about Batman beating that guy]. I was like what the…I actually just texted Matt after and I was like, ‘What the fuck! This is cool!… I loved it. I thought it was so cool. I thought it was like the right direction and everything about it. As far as just a fan of a movie, it’s the kind of movie I want to see, so I felt like [two thumbs up].”

Needless to say, we’re extremely interested to see “The Batman,” and the HBO Max release of “Zack Snyder’s Justice League” sometime in 2021.
