A Princess Bride Reboot May Be On The Way

A new Variety profile on Norman Lear, the person who produced the original Princess Bride movie has lead many to believe that the property will be revisited soon. The 97 year old producer recently signed a new deal with Sony Pictures Entertainment and many people are now coming to him for a Princess Bride reboot.

“We have so many people coming to us saying, ‘We want to remake this show or that show. Very famous people whose names I won’t use, but they want to redo The Princess Bride. Some people want to do animated versions of some of the sitcoms. Not a month goes by when we don’t have an idea coming from some very big name wanting to do things with Norman.”

    Sony CEO Tony Vinciquerra

With Lear now involved with Sony we may actually get to see a great reboot of the Princess Bride. In whatever form they choose as long as Lear is directly involved and it has his blessing fans should be pleased. There is no doubt that they will go all out with this one as merchandise for the franchise would sell by the truckload.

    History

The Princess Bride is a cult classic that came out in 1987 and is loved by many people. It is an adventure and love story about Princess Buttercup(Robin Wright) and her love Wesley(Cary Elwes). The film features many other stars such as Mandy Patinkin, Chris Sarandon, Wallace Shawn, André the Giant and Christopher Guest.  It is many peoples go to movie for a first date and is still shown sometimes in theaters to this day.

    Stage Play

Disney also announced a theatrical production back in 2013 which they have just now put a creative team on. The team includes including composer and lyricist David Yazbek (The Band’s Visit) and writers Bob Martin (The Prom) and Rick Elice (The Cher Show). Hopefully we will get more information on when we can see it on the stage soon.
