Johnny Depp Returning for Pirates 6? New Rumors Have Fans Buzzing

One of the best sources for Disney leaks, Disinsider, just put out a new rumor involving Johnny Depp and “Pirates.” The recent buzz is that Johnny Depp may be returning for a 6th the “Pirates of the Caribbean” film. New information points to Jerry Bruckheimer considering two ideas for the 6th film.

What happened to Margot Robbie’s “Pirates” Film?

It’s been a while since we got an update on Disney’s next planned installment for Pirates of the Caribbean. Previously we reported that Margot Robbie may have been involved with the Pirates films. In 2020 it was announced that Robbie was developing and possibly starring in a 6th film. The rumor was that she would be playing that famous redhead character from the original Disneyland ride. Redd, a character who went from pirate to businesswoman.

Nothing about the story was confirmed but In 2022, Robbie revealed her project was probably dead.

    Disney’s 2023 Script Purchase

In 2023 “The Last of Us” HBO creator Craig Mazin wrote a script for a possible 6th “Pirates” film. Working on it alongside original screenwriter Ted Elliot , they thought it was “Too Weird.” They didn’t think that Disney would buy it. Well, Disney bought it! Unfortunately, this was right before the strike so it ended up going nowhere.

“We pitched it and thought there’s no way they’re buying it, it’s too weird. And they did! And then we wrote a fantastic script and the strike happened and everyone’s waiting around.”

Mazin to the LA Times in 2023.

Bruckheimer spoke on “Pirates of the Caribbean” back in 2024

While doing press for Guy Ritchie‘s upcoming “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare,” Bruckheimer said something interesting. While he was being asked about some of his notable credits, including “Top Gun”, he let something slip about “Pirates.”

“It’s hard to tell. You don’t know, you really don’t know. “You don’t know how they come together. You just don’t know. Because with Top Gun you have an actor who is iconic and brilliant. And how many movies he does before he does Top Gun, I can’t tell you. But we’re gonna reboot Pirates, so that is easier to put together because you don’t have to wait for certain actors.”

    Bruckheimer

When Jerry Bruckheimer spoke to Variety that same year he said the film could go in two possible directions. One could bring Johnny Depp back into the series while another would move in a different direction altogether. It’s clear there’s still interest in the franchise. Plus now with these new rumors we have hope that something might happen.

    DisInsider’s Rumor

Disinsider ran this as a rumor because they couldn’t get any concrete confirmations on the project. However, a source close to them said that Walt Disney Studios might be quietly gearing up. They said that very possibly they’re beginning production at one Hollywood sound stage. There is presently not enough information to give everyone a timeline. But, according to Disinsider this project will feature Johnny Depp in some way. Whether or not he stars, or we see the story of his son or something we still don’t know.

For now, take this information with a grain of salt. At least until either Disney or any of the major outlets confirm. Depp’s involvement seems to be dependent on whether he and Disney can reconcile. Especially after his highly publicized defamation trial which began back in 2019 against Amber Heard. That’s seven years ago already, yeesh.
