Sometimes a reboot is NOT a great idea. But sometimes a new take on something can be. We’ll admit, we had mixed feelings about a possible “Pirates of the Caribbean” reboot from Disney. The pitch, however, was pretty interesting. Instead of focusing on the Turners and a certain Captain Jack Sparrow personality, we’d meet a new face in the piratical world. And she’d be played by Oscar nominated actress Margot Robbie.
In 2020, word came down that the House of Mouse was eyeing this reboot, attaching Robbie imedately. “Birds of Prey” scribe Christina Hodson was penning the script. Jerry Bruckheimer, longtime producer of the “Pirates” properties, was attached to produce. It seemed like a pretty done deal, honestly.
But, in a recent spotlight story with Vanity Fair, we find this isn’t the case.
“We had an idea and we were developing it for a while, ages ago, to have more of a female-led—not totally female-led, but just a different kind of story—which we thought would’ve been really cool, but I guess they don’t want to do it,” Robbie revealed.
We’re…actually kind of sad it isn’t happening. Maybe it will at some point, but not this version. We’ll let you know what we hear about this and other news.
