George R. R. Martin is Consulting on a Japanese Game

Game of Thrones has come to an end. Though our adventures with Jon Snow and Tyrion Lannister may be over, the father of Westeros seems to be more productive than ever. In a recent blog post on the finale of Game of Thrones, Martin teases multiple projects he is working on. The author says he is working on several TV and film projects, and surprisingly, is consulting on a Japanese videogame.

“As a producer, I’ve got five shows in development at HBO (some having nothing whatsoever to do with the world of Westeros), two at Hulu, one on the History Channel. I’m involved with a number of feature projects, some based upon my own stories and books, some on material created by others. There are these short films I am hoping to make, adaptations of classic stories by one of the most brilliant, quirky, and original writers our genre has ever produced. I’ve consulted on a video game out of Japan.”

Will this new game be anything like Dark Souls? After all, Martin and Dark Souls know a lot about graphic death.

Martin hasn’t revealed any details on what this game may entail. However, Gematsu believes it to be a From Software open world game. Gematsu believes that the game will be announced at Microsoft’s E3 conference this year. In their report, they go on to say that the game has been in development for three years and is a collaboration between Martin and Hidetaka Miyazaki. Bandai Namco publishing is also believed to be involved with the project. Little is actually known about what kind of game Martin is collaborating on. The project is identified only as GR.

Although Game of Thrones is over, it seems that George R. R. Martin is still hard at work using his creative talents. Hopefully, he will find the time to finish writing The Winds of Winter, the final A Song of Ice and Fire novel. I for one cannot wait for June 9th to see if this mysterious game will be revealed.
