Director Guillermo del Toro is known for his unique blend of gothic horror and the fantastical. His latest film “Frankenstein” is set to Netflix on November 7th, after a small theatrical run. In preparation for its wider release, Insight Editions has put out the gorgeous official companion book, “Art and Making of Frankenstein.”

This new book offers a behind-the-scenes look at del Toro’s long-sought-after film. Featuring exclusive interviews with the director, crew, and stars like Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, Mia Goth, and Christoph Waltz. Readers will also get to see concept art, period-specific props, locations, costumes, and deep insights into the process of making a film.

“Art and Making of Frankenstein” has candid photos, exclusive storyboards, concept artwork, and del Toro’s developmental sketches of the monster. Not to mention over twelve unique ephemera items inserted by hand into each book.

    Limited Artifact Edition

There is also an Artifact Edition signed by del Toro that is limited to 750 copies. These versions are packaged in a bespoke clamshell box, embossed, and feature a sculpted Medusa-head emblem created by the movie’s prop designer. Bound in Svepa leatherette, it comes with an exclusive prop-replica portfolio of 21 sketches from the film. Plus a custom art print, produced for Insight Editions by the film’s concept artist, Mike Hill.

It also includes a facsimile reproduction of Victor Frankenstein’s notebook and a one-fifth-scale replica statue of the Dark Angel, which were created for this edition under the personal direction of the filmmaker.

Pre-orders are now open here for both editions of the companion book. You can catch del Toro’s “Frankenstein” exclusively on Netflix starting November 7th.
