In 2007, the video game “Mass Effect” hit shelves for the first time and became a huge hit for Electronic Arts. By 2021, Amazon MGM Studios had acquired the rights to adapt it into a series, but then there were mostly crickets.

The studio has just confirmed that Doug Jung (“The Chief Of War”) will be coming on to the project as a showrunner.

Jung will be working alongside series writer Daniel Casey (“F9: The Fast Saga”), who came on to the project about a year ago. Casey and Jung will executive produce as well with Michael Gamble of Electronic Arts, Karim Zreik of Cedar Tree Productions, alongside Ari Arad, and Emmy Yu of Arad Productions.

Plot details for the show are unknown at this time. However, the first game is set in the 22nd century and centers around an elite human soldier, Commander Shepard. Shepard is desperately trying to navigate a dangerous galaxy teetering on the brink of destruction. He also has to contend with Reapers, a powerful machine race that periodically returns to eradicate organic life in the galaxy.

There are currently four games in the “Mass Effect” franchise, with a fifth entry currently in the works.

We’ll keep you posted on updates about the upcoming “Mass Effect” series adaptation as the project develops.
