If you’re looking for a good reason to start collecting Sailor Moon dolls again, Bandai has given us one. Historically, especially in the United States, Sailor Moon dolls have been few and far between. We got some in the 90s that collectors so wonderfully called “Frog Face Dolls.” They were not great, but they did the job when we were younger and scratched that collector’s itch. Then once in a while we’d get access to some dolls from overseas which were always of better quality than the ones put out here.

Thanks to Premium Bandai, collectors from all over have access to the most beautiful dolls yet.

The two dolls I’m going to be talking about here were released for the newer “Sailor Moon Eternal” movies. The animation in the newer “Sailor Moon Crystal” series was much closer to how Naoko Takuechi designed the original characters.

    Paint & Sculpt

These dolls are of the best quality I’ve ever seen in a Sailor Moon doll, ever. The faces are one of the best features on them. Perfectly painted and sculpted to look like them from the front and side.

    Hair & Details

The hair is styled in such a way that you would believe these were based on real people. One of the things I disliked about the 90s dolls was that instead of hair for the odangos they used beads and thread. Most of those ended up getting loose. As you would play with the dolls, brushing their hair was out of the question. It wasn’t until I was older that I got the courage to change the rotted rubber bands. Putting in their hair bands did make them look better but I always wished they were styled differently. I probably still would advise against brushing these dolls hair but seeing how they were styled means that if they were to be played with they would withstand a lot of abuse.

    Outfits & Embellishments

The outfits are impeccable. There are a lot of little details that really make these ones stand out. For instance Chibi Moon has the ombre effect on her skirt which many dolls of the same transformation did not have. Instead they’d have separate fabrics or ribbons sewn on. The Princess Serenity Style Doll has incredible embellishments and embroidery on her dress. She has many features that dolls of her in the past did not have. Like the tendrils of hair in the front and the earrings that swoop down. Chibi Moon also has the tendrils in the front styled a bit differently as hers are a little curlier than her moms. All of the clothing comes off like the other dolls would, and have removeable shoes and accessories.

The joints on these dolls are pretty much the same as the old 90s. The illustration on the back looks just like the joints on the dolls released previously in the U.S. They are ball joint dolls but only in the arms and legs. Their knees and elbows are not movable and remain straight.

Overall these dolls are a must have for any Sailor Moon collector. You can shop for Sailor Moon things from Bandai Premium here.
