[SDCC] Michael C. Hall to Star in 2 New “Dexter” Series

Everyone’s favorite crime-fighting, blood-obsessed serial killer is back. Actor Michael C. Hall will be returning to the world of “Dexter” for not one but TWO new series “Dexter: Resurrection” and “Dexter: Original Sin.” With each series set in completely different time periods for the character.

    “Dexter: Resurrection”

“Resurrection” is set in the present day and serve as a follow-up to the 2021 reboot “Dexter: New Blood.” So the show will have Hall playing an aged-up version of the notorious blood splatter expert.

“It’s pretty heady,” Hall said during a panel at San Diego Comic-Con. “I’m having flashbacks of the first time I came to Comic-Con. We were in this hall. That was … 75 years ago? It’s amazing to still be alive. I cannot wait to watch this show. To a certain degree, I have a sense of what is coming. I’ve spent so much time with this character and to go back to have those sort of imaginative blanks filled in this technicolor show … It’s amazing.”

It is expected to begin shooting in January, with a premiere on Showtime set for the summer of 2025.

    “Dexter: Original Sin”

“Original Sin,” will be a prequel series set in the 1990s, because of the age discrepancies Patrick Gibson (“Before We Die”) will play a younger version of Dexter, with Hall serving as the narrator. It will be a 10-episode show set in Miami, following Dexter (Gibson), as a student refining his murderous techniques with the help and support of his adoptive father Harry (Christian Slater).

As the teen’s homicidal impulses grow, his father teaches Dexter a code that’s designed to help him find and kill people who deserve to die. All while avoiding getting caught by law enforcement. We will even get to see him begin as a forensics intern at the Miami Metro Police Department.

“Expect what you have seen before but better,” said showrunner Clyde Phillips. “To see these characters as their younger selves is just amazing and the storytelling, I promise you, will be surprising and astonishing and satisfying.”

“It’s a wide-open path,” added executive producer Scott Reynolds. “Being able to tell a story about a kid who thinks he’s worthless and a dad who says he’s not is a beautiful thing.”

The show’s cast also includes Sarah Michelle Geller, Patrick Dempsey, Christina Milian, Reno Wilson, and Molly Brown. “Original Sin,” is set to premiere on Showtime in December.

We’ll keep you posted on updates about “Dexter: Resurrection” and “Dexter: Original Sin” as they become available. You can check out the new opening credits for “Original Sin” below:
