Amazon MGM Studios is adapting author Andy Weir’s novel “Project Hail Mary” into a feature film. “Die Hart”’s Milana Vayntrub will be joining the cast alongside Ryan Gosling (“The Fall Guy”) and Oscar Nominee Sandra Hüller (“Anatomy of a Fall“).

“Project Hail Mary” tells the story of a middle school science teacher Ryland Grace (Gosling). One day, Ryland wakes up on a spaceship with no memory of who he is or how he got there. He also has to complete an interstellar mission to save Earth from an astronomical catastrophe, alone. That is until he meets a mysterious alien who has traveled light years to save his species from the same fate. No word on who Vayntrub (Marvel Studios’ never-made “Squirrel Girl“) will be playing.

    “Project Hail Mary“‘s Creative Team

The film is co-directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the duo behind “The LEGO Movie” and the “Spider-Verse” franchise. The script is written by Drew Goddard who previously adapted Weir’s novel, “The Martian,” into Ridley Scott‘s 2015 film. Producers include Gosling for General Admission, Lord, Miller, and Aditya Sood under their Lord Miller production banner. Along with Amy Pascal and Rachel O’Connor for Pascal Picture, and Weir.

Cameras started rolling on “Project Hail Mary” earlier this month, and it will be shot in IMAX. The movie is currently scheduled to hit theaters on March 20th, 2026. We’ll keep you posted on updates about the project as they become available. Pick Weir’s novel here.
