Disneyland to Replace Classic Autopia Cars With EVs

A classic fan-favorite attraction at Disneyland is Tomorrowland’s Autopia, which allows visitors with young children to hop into a car and steer around a circular track at up to six miles per hour. While Autopia was cutting edge when Tomorrowland opened in 1955, its gas-fueled automobiles have become dated.

So, Disneyland has announced it will replace Autopia’s gas-powered vehicles with electric ones!

“Since opening with Disneyland park in 1955, Autopia has remained a guest-favorite most popular with young kids experiencing driving for the first time,” Disneyland spokesperson Jessica Good said. “As the industry moves toward alternative fuel sources, we have developed a roadmap to electrify this attraction and are evaluating technology that will enable us to convert from gas engines in the next few years.”

Good is right. Electric-powered vehicles (EVs), hybrids, and fuel-cell cars are the way the auto industry is heading. Meaning, this move is not only good for the environment, but it also stays in line with Tomorrowland’s futuristic vision.

To be clear, Autopia is currently the ONLY attraction slated to make this switch over to EVs. The cars at Walt Disney World’s Tomorrowland Speedway are not slated to change any time soon. It is unknown when Autopia’s switch to EVs will take place, as Disneyland officials have declined to comment further.

We will keep you posted on updates about Autopia’s switching over to EVs as they become available.
