Plot Details for “Freaky Friday 2” Revealed

Late last week, the long-rumored sequel to 2003’s “Freaky Friday” nabbed Nisha Ganatra (“Welcome to Chippendales”) as director. Ganatra has given us some possible plot details via an open casting call on her Instagram story. The call is specifically looking for an actress to play the role of Anna (Lindsay Lohan)’s 14-year-old daughter, Harper.

Lohan and Oscar-winner Jamie Lee Curtis are still in talks to reprise their roles as the body-swapping mother and daughter, Tess and Ana Coleman. Given how vocal both actresses have been about their support of this project, it’s assumed they’ll return.

    Possible Plot

The audition sides, and eight pages of the script being sent out to prospective performers, indicate a possible plot. Ana and Tess will be body-swapping with two teenage girls. Harper is described as “a tomboy with a sharp sense of humor” who’s “in a bit of a mood these days because her longtime single mom is set to marry British restaurateur, Eric Davis.”

Eric also has a 14-year-old daughter named Lily, who does “not see eye to eye” with Harper. As you can imagine, this is complicating their parent upcoming nuptials.

The pages contain “a ‘body swap’ scene,” and say “Harper should channel ‘Anna’ (Lindsay Lohan) and Lily should channel ‘Tess’ (Jamie Lee Curtis).” Harper “would like to see things go her way and use her intelligence to stop this marriage from ever happening.” All while stressing that the actress’ performance  “should be grounded, emotional, and as natural as possible.”

Other parts of this possible script include a scene where body-swapped Harper and Lily participate in a beach cleanup as part of school detention. During this, Lily/Tess voices concerns that Harper/Anna will move away to London to be with her new husband.

There is also a scene of the body-swapped duo sitting in a kitchen sipping apple juice from wine glasses. In this scene, Harper explains that she fears she lost touch with her teenage self, who wanted to front a rock band.

Dinsey has not confirmed or denied if the pages being sent out are from an official script. There was an early draft written by Elyse Hollander, but, it is unclear if her script is the one being used.

    The History of “Freaky Friday”

Disney first adapted “Freaky Friday” in 1976. It’s based on Mary Rodgers’ 1972 novel of the same name and starred Jodie Foster. The company remade the film in 2003, with Lohan and Curtis. And in 2018, Disney Channel turned the story into a musical movie.

We’ll keep you posted on  “Freaky Friday 2” updates as they become available. You can catch the original and the 2003 version on Disney+.
