The small town of Funner, California was officially given that name by the Rincon Tribe in August 2016. Like its namesake, it is committed to promoting the most fun possible in every business within the city limits. This mission touches every aspect of the resort town. Even down to its choice in Mayor.
Funnyman Martin Short will be taking over this coveted government position for the next two years.
Past Mayors
Past Funner officials include Rob Riggle (“The Daily Show“), David Hasselhoff (“Baywatch“), and Short’s “Only Murders in the Building” co-star, Jane Lynch. So yes, Oliver Putnam will be following in Sazz Pataki‘s footsteps.
“As the mayor-elect of Funner, I promise to be more than just a spokesperson dressed in purple from head-to-toe, but instead, the best mayor in the whole darn state,” Short said about the news. “It’s my goal to make every part of the already fun Harrah’s Resort SoCal even Funner, and I can’t wait to share my plans with all of my constituents in just six short weeks.”
As a part of his position, Short will sit on the city council alongside Jill Barrett, Harrah’s Resort SoCal’s senior vice president and general manager. Short will be inaugurated on May 13, where he will be given the key to the city and announce his upcoming plans for the Funner.
He must also pledge “to protect fun, good times, laughing out loud and positive vibes from the negative influences determined to turn a smile upside down.” We think Short will be up to the task.
You can catch “Only Murders in the Building” streaming exclusively on Hulu. Season four will premiere later this year.
