Amazon MGM Studios is partnering with The Jim Henson Company to develop a series based on Brian and Wendy Froud’s “Faeries.” The Frouds will executive produce along with their son, Toby, and The Jim Henson Company. The show is called “Faerie,” and seeks to be a “modern Henson family adventure set in the magical world of Brian & Wendy Froud’s Faeries.”
It will tell the story of Faeries kidnapping an unsuspecting father. Forcing his family to venture into the Faerie realm to rescue him. Through their journey, they will discover their inner strength and unique potential, challenging the expectations that the human world has put upon them. At its core, Faerie is a story of perseverance and the strength of a family’s love, filled with magic, adventure, and self-discovery at every age.
That certainly sounds like a Henson family adventure to us!
The Frouds have a long history of partnering with The Jim Henson Company, considering they met while working on “The Dark Crystal.” They went on to work on other Henson properties like “Labyrinth” and the Netflix series “The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.” Brian also worked on the Henson series “Storyteller,” the 2003 version of “Peter Pan,” and the 2016 film “Pete’s Dragon.” Wendy is still probably best known for fabricating the Yoda puppet for “Star Wars: Episode VI- The Empire Strikes Back.”
Outside of Hollywood, Wendy illustrated the three books “A Midsummer Night’s Fairytale,” “The Winter Child,” and “The Faeries of Spring Cottage” by Terri Windling. Brian published the 1978 book “Faeries” with Alan Lee, and his concept art was also featured in the companion book “The World of the Dark Crystal.” His artwork even serves as the basis for the “Faerielands” books.
