“Mortal Kombat 1″ Creative Director Ed Boon is up to some shenanigans by teasing fans with potential characters for DLC. As it is officially “spooky season,” what’s a better tease than famous horror icons?
In a cryptic post to X, Boon shared an image of horror icons with question, or check marks over their heads. (We miss the days of just calling it Twitter.) The horror icons shown were Leatherface, Jason Vorhees, Freddy Kruger, Pinhead, Chucky, Michael Myers, Ghostface, and Billy the Puppet from “Saw.”
Fans of the game franchise have seen Leatherface, Jason, and Freddy in past “Mortal Kombat” games, hence their faces having a check mark.

Fans immediately began speculating and suggesting horror icons for DLC characters. Bruce Campbell‘s Ash (“Evil Dead“) was heavily suggested. There were heavy rumors that the character could appear, until Campbell squashed them. Over the franchise history we’ve also gotten Predator and the Xenomorph to add to the horror guest list. There are so many horror characters they could add to this already stacked game, we just can’t pick one. However, this could just be a case of Boon trolling fans for fun. It is October after all.

“Mortal Kombat 1” has already confirmed the group of characters going to be added through the Kombat Pack DLC. The list includes Quan Chi, Ermac, and Takeda from previous games in the franchise. Purchasers of the DLC will also get Peacemaker (“The Suicide Squad” and “Peacemaker“), Omni-Man (“Invincible“), and Homelander (“The Boys“). There has been no confirmed release date for the DLC, but it is expected to be available to play in Spring 2024.
“Mortal Kombat 1” is currently available to play on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S/X, Nintendo Switch, and PC through Steam and Epic Games Store.
