Streamer Netflix dropped a teaser and release date for their newest animated series, “Skull Island.” The show will follow a group of people who are stranded on King Kong‘s home of Skull Island after a crash. They must find a way to survive while they try to figure out a way back home. But a unique set of problems presents itself when they find the island is inhabited by large creatures running amuck.

It is already confirmed that “Skull Island” will star classic monsters like King Kong and Gorilla. But the teaser trailer shows a bunch of giant tentacles destroying a helicopter. As well as a slew of other monsters that may inhabit the island.

“Skull Island” was created, written, and executive produced by Brian Duffield (“Cocaine Bear”). Animation is being handled by Powerhouse Animation, which has worked on other projects like Netflix’s “Castlevania” and “Blood of Zeus.” The voice cast includes Nicholas Cantu (“The Fabelmans”) as the main protagonist Charlie. Along with Mae Whitman (“Up Here”) as Annie, Darren Barnet (“Never Have I Ever”) as Mike, Benjamin Bratt (“Poker Face”) as Cap, and Betty Gilpin (“GLOW”) as Irene.

This series will be the latest entry into Legendary’s MonterVerse which kicked off in 2014 with “Godzilla.” The series now includes 2017’s “Kong: Skull Island,” 2019’s “Godzilla: King of the Monsters,” and 2021’s “Godzilla vs. Kong.” The next entry, “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,” is currently set for a March 15th, 2024 release date. The animated “Skull Island” series is also not to be confused with the other MonsterVerse television series in the works at Apple TV+, which is a live-action project.

“Skull Island” hits Netflix June 22. We’ll keep you posted on any updates about the project as they become available. You can check out the teaser below:
