AppleTV+’s upcoming“Godzilla And The Titans” series has themselves a director. Matt Shakman, who has made a huge splash over the past few years, will be helming the first two episodes. He directed and produced the Disney+ hit show “WandaVision.”
He also directed the pilot for “The Great” along with episodes of “Game of Thrones,” “The Boys,” “Mad Men,” “Fargo,”and “Succession.” But for many fans he is still best known for directing over 40 episodes of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia“. He is also co-writing the next “Star Trek” motion picture.
This Godzilla series continues the story of Legendary’s MonsterVerse, which currently consists of “Godzilla,” “Kong: Skull Island,” “Godzilla: King of the Monsters,” and “Godzilla vs. Kong.” These movies have already made close to $2 billion globally. And if that isn’t enough Godzilla for you, Netflix is also making a “Skull Island” anime series.
The new Apple TV+ project will be taking place after the battle between Godzilla and the Titans, hence the working title. A fight that caused humanity to realize that monsters are, in fact, real. It will follow a family’s journey to uncover buried secrets. And a legacy that links them to the Monarch organization.
After his 2 episode directorial stint, Shakman will be an executive producer for the rest of the series. Chris Black and Matt Fraction co-created the show, and will serve along with Shakman as executive producers. Black will also serve as the showrunner. Joby Harold, Tory Tunnell from Safehouse Pictures and Hiro Matsuoka and Takemasa Arita of Toho Co. Ltd. are also attached as executive producers.
“Godzilla And The Titans” is currently in pre-production, with no set release date. We’ll let you know what we hear about this and other news.
