Lena Headey to Star in Kurt Sutter’s Western for Netflix

Cersei Lannister is going West(eros)! Lena Headey will star in Netflix’s upcoming Western series, “The Abandons.” The “Game of Thrones” star will be playing the part of Fiona. The matriarch of a family of adoptees. According to the character description, Heady’s character is “a strong, devout matriarch who, unable to have her own children, took in four orphans to create her own family. Driven by a higher purpose — and a strong-willed Irish temper — her faith and love for her family trump all.” Headey’s certainly no stranger to playing strong women.

Let’s hope she’s less scary than Cersei, HBO

Only this time, we’re pretty sure the matriarchal role will be far less terrifying than Cersei. “The Abandons” takes place in 1850s Oregon, and will cover the drama and strife of trying to settle on the US continent. All the while trying to defend their lands from a “corrupt force” of wealth and power. The series comes from “Sons of Anarchy” creator Kurt Sutter.

Sutter has had a bit of a rocky go of it, though. “The Abandons” will be his first series since being kicked off “Mayans MC” — FX’s “Sons of Anarchy” spin-off — for being, as Sutter puts it, “an abrasive dick”. Sutter was apparently the subject of multiple complaints from cast and crew about his behavior. Hopefully he’s matured since 2019.

Alongside Sutter will be executive producers Emmy Grinwis, Stephen Surjik and Otto Bathurst. The latter two are both set to direct some episodes as well. Preceding “The Abandons“, Headey will star in HBO’s “White House Plumbers“ as Dorothy Hunt, the wife of Watergate burglar E. Howard Hunt, played by Woody Harrelson.

No release date has been announced yet. We’ll let you know what we hear about this and other news.
