Writers Room Forming for “Wednesday” Season 2

One of the more surprisingly enduring film characters of the last 30 years has been that of Wednesday Addams. While Wednesday has been around since the original cartoons of Charles Addams in 1938, it was the interpretation of the character by Christina Ricci in the duo of “Addams Family” films in 1991 and 1993 that firmly planted the character in popular culture. In 2022, Tim Burton and Netflix delivered a tv series starring the child of woe herself, played by Jenna Ortega.

While a second season order hasn’t been officially announced yet, there is some promising news.

    Netflix

There’s no denying the ratings success of “Wednesday.“ It has become one of Netflix’s most watched programs ever. Ortega’s take on the character has clearly resonated with viewers, so while a second season would seem inevitable, that’s not always a guarantee. We’re living in an entertainment environment where shocking cancellations, changes, and program removals can happen seemingly on a whim. That being said, it would seem extremely foolhardy not to follow up with a second season of “Wednesday.”

Fortunately, it looks like the writer’s room for season two is already shaping up.

According to reports, discussions about shooting locations and writing team additions are happening. The series was created by the combination of Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, who were also responsible for programs like “Smallville“ and “Into the Badlands.” They were also responsible for writing or co-writing a majority of “Wednesday” episodes, as well as serving as executive producers. Burton was also actively involved in season one, directing the first four episodes.

Another season of “Wednesday” is kind of expected by fans at this point. Especially considering how season 1 didn’t tie up every loose end. Yes, it does tell a relatively self-contained story, but without going into spoilers, there are certain questions left unanswered. The idea of kids in a high school with various abilities isn’t exactly outside the ballpark of Gough and Millar. You know, like “Smallville.”

So suffice to say, there are still stories that can be told surrounding Wednesday and her family as well.

As we await an official announcement on season two we’ll keep you informed as to ongoing developments. Meanwhile, if you haven’t watched “Wednesday,” it’s currently streaming on Netflix.
