Netflix Release First “Teletubbies” Reboot Trailer

Netflix just released the first trailer for the “Teletubbies” reboot starring Tituss Burgess (“Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”). The “Teletubbies” were originally a British children’s television series created by Anne Wood and Andrew Davenport for the BBC. It focused on four brightly colored characters- Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa-Laa, and Po. Though they were made to look a bit like toddlers, all four have uniquely shaped antennae sticking out of their heads and TVs in their stomachs. But like toddlers, they speak a language that only they seem to understand.

Young viewers would follow these creatures as they explore and play in a bright, safe, grassy landscape and are occasionally visited by a sun with a baby’s face in it. “Teletubbies”’s bright colors and (seemingly unintentionally) surreal tone made it a hit with its target audience as well as older viewers. The series originally ran for five seasons from 1997 to 2001. In 2015 Nick Jr. rebooted the show and that ran until 2018.

Netflix announced this second reboot in early September. The streaming giant invites viewers to “learn and grow in this 21st century refresh of the beloved preschool series, now narrated by Emmy-nominee Tituss Burgess.” Each new episode will include “new, original Tummy Tales songs that will have the entire family dancing along!”

In the trailer, we hear Burgess’ voice reintroduce us to our old friends. The characters and landscape look very similar to the original program. The only major change seems to they are now doing the faces of various children transposed onto the sun, instead of one child like the original run.

“Teletubbies” will hit Netflix on November 14th in all countries, sans the U.K.. It will consist of 26 12-minute-long episodes, perfect for young attention spans. You can check out the new trailer below:
