Last month, we reported that the long-awaited sequel to the 2006 meta slasher The Rise of Leslie Vernon was still in the works. At the time, the project was full-steam ahead, but launching a Kickstarter for additional funding. The Behind the Mask II: The Return of Leslie Vernon Kickstarter campaign has now closed after meeting several stretch goals!

“The long awaited sequel to the cult classic meta-slasher Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon…. COMING IN 2027!” the page reads.
Director Scott Glosserman and writer David J. Stieve will be coming back for The Return of Leslie Vernon. The film’s original stars, Nathan Baesel, Angela Goethals, and Robert Englund, will also be returning. As the name suggests, it will continue to follow the crimes of the very chatty serial killer.
“We’re making the movie either way,” said Glosserman before the Kickstarter launched. “But the more the audience gets involved, the bigger we can make it. Bigger set pieces. More cameos. More surprises. This has always been a fan-driven film, and it still is.”
And he is right, the campaign raised $400,710, way surpassing its $300,000 stretch goal, which promises a “new horror icon cameo.”
The project is originally backed by Paper Street Pictures, a genre company led by Aaron B. Koontz and Cameron Burns. Adam F. Goldberg will be executive producing.
We’ll keep you posted on updates about Behind the Mask II: The Return of Leslie Vernon as the project develops.
