MGM+ is planning an 8-episode remake of the 1960’s western “The Magnificent Seven.” It’s just been confirmed that Matt Dillon (“Asteroid City”) will star in and executive produce the upcoming project.
The new series is created by “Heroes” creator Tim Kring.

Dillion will star as Chris Adams, the leader of a gang of seven gunslingers. Him and his crew become hellbent on protecting a group of innocent villagers from a mercenary land baron. A plotline that is unfortunately always topical.
“Matt Dillon brings extraordinary depth and gravitas to this iconic role,” said Michael Wright, global head of MGM+. “His ability to portray complex, morally conflicted characters makes him the perfect choice to lead our reimagining of The Magnificent Seven. This series honors the legacy of the original film while exploring timeless themes about courage, redemption, and standing up against oppression—and Matt’s performance will be at the heart of that story.”
The role of Chris was originally portrayed by Yul Brynner (“Futureworld”). Followed by Denzel Washington (“Gladiator II”) in Antoine Fuqua’s 2016 remake
Kring and Dillon will executive produce alongside Donald De Line, Lawrence Mirisch, and Bruce Kaufman.
Production for “The Magnificent Seven” is currently slated to begin in June 2026 in Calgary. There is no release window set for MGM+, we’ll keep you posted on updates as the series develops.
