We have some big updates about Ryan Coogler’s (“Sinners”) long-awaited “X-Files” reboot. The pilot has officially been greenlit for Hulu, with Danielle Deadwyler (“The Piano Lesson”) set to co-lead.

Jennifer Yale (“The Copenhagen Test”) has also signed on as showrunner and producer.

Coogler will be both writing and directing the pilot episode of the new “X-Files.”  Like its predecessor, it will follow two wildly different but highly decorated FBI agents. The two leads, one played by Deadwyler, form an unlikely bond when they are both assigned to a newly revived division dedicated to investigating the paranormal.

Coogler and Yale will produce the upcoming show with Chris Carter, who created the original series. They will produce alongside Sev Ohanian and Zinzi Coogler of Proximity Media. The series itself is the product of a 5-year exclusivity deal between Coogler and Hulu’s parent company, Disney.

“I’ve been excited about that for a long time, and I’m fired up to get back to it. Some of those episodes, if we do our jobs right, will be really f*cking scary,” Coogler said about the project in April. “We’re gonna try to make something really great and really be something for the real X-Files fans, and maybe find some new ones.” During this same interview, he disclosed that he had spoken with Gillian Anderson, who starred in the original series alongside David Duchovny.

“X-Files” 1st debuted on Fox in 1993 and ran for 9 seasons. It spawned 2 feature films, 1998’s “The X-Files” and 2008’s “The X-Files: I Want to Believe.” Plus, there was a previous revival in 2016 that ran on Fox for 2 seasons.

There is currently no set release window for Ryan Coogler’s “X-Files” reboot. We’ll keep you posted on project updates as they develop.
