Over the last couple of years we had kept our eyes open for updates on a few lower key Marvel Studios properties. In particular, one that we were especially looking forward to was a series surrounding Nova. Otherwise known as Richard Rider, Nova’s space faring adventures saw him interacting with the Guardians of the Galaxy alongside other space faring heroes and villains. Just as we thought things were really gearing up for the series to move forward, it turns out it and other developing shows are being put on hold.

The superhero genre has been having some issues. After pumping out content left and right for screens big and small, most studios have taken their collective foot off the gas pedal. Not only does this mean less new projects, but also putting a hold on things previously announced.
According to reports, Marvel Studios is pausing development on “Nova,” “Terror, Inc.,” and “Strange Academy.” “Terror, Inc.” leans much harder into the realm of dark and horror with its lead character, Terror, being the embodiment of a demonic entity that can absorb power through severed limbs. “Strange Academy” is an academy for magical students, founded by Doctor Strange. The comic series premiered in 2020 and the premise pretty easily translates to a potential series. And “Nova” is a long-awaited project that’s been teased for upwards of 10 years.

Sources on the matter claim none of the series were officially greenlit to begin with, but they’re not officially cancelled either. It seems more likely Marvel Studios could doing a “wait and see” with how other projects are received. It’s still too early to tell how “Captain America: Brave New World“ is going to fare at the box office for its overall run. “Thunderbolts*“ is the next big film on the release slate (May 2nd), and with it’s cast of familiar returning characters, it’ll be interesting to gauge what’s next.
At the very least, Marvel fans can get their series fix when “Daredevil: Born Again“ premieres on Disney+ on March 4th.
