“Daredevil: Born Again” is ‘More Violent’ Than Anything Netflix Did

We are over a decade into the superhero boom “Iron Man” and “The Dark Knight” helped launch. In that time, we’ve watched our heroes switch between the big and small screens, and now streaming platforms.

In 2015, Marvel partnered with Netflix to do live-action superhero TV shows again. Resulting in some rather dark, more adult-oriented content with series like “Marvel’s Daredevil,” “Marvel’s The Punisher,” “Marvel’s Jessica Jones,” “Marvel’s Luke Cage,” and “Marvel’s The Defenders.”

While shows like “Loki” and “WandaVision” were undeniable hits, they were far less violent fare than what we saw with the Netflix shows. With the upcoming release of “Daredevil: Born Again,” some are worried the graphic violence will be toned down, considering the Disney+ platform.

Fear not- showrunner Dario Scardapane (“The Punisher” series) assures fans Daredevil will be kicking ass like always.

    Netflix vs Disney+

“The level of violence is way up there for a Marvel/Disney show,” Scardapane told Empire. “I don’t think there’s anything else even in the ballpark. There’s a moment in this that is just absolutely batshit, and way past anything Netflix ever did.”

Even star Vincent D’Onofrio, reprising his role as Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin, agrees it’s darker and nastier than anything we’ve seen before. “There’s a world in which you might think that if that show kept running, we’d be in this place eventually, or something like it,” he said. “But we’ve gone further in the darkness, the action, the nastiness.”

“Born Again” will see Matt Murdock/Daredevil (Charlie Cox) and Fisk forced a begrudging truce. “If you look at how it ends almost every season, they punch the shit out of each other, Kingpin goes to jail, we know he’s gonna come back. I didn’t want to do that,” Scardapane teases. “This dynamic is way more tense. There’s one scene between them in the first episode that lays it all out. Then we spend the next eight episodes throwing rocks at it.”

“Daredevil: Born Again” hits Disney+ March 5th, 2025. All seasons of the original “Marvel’s Daredevil” series and other “Defenders” shows are currently streaming on Disney+ as well.
