Oct 3rd: Paramount Released “Mean Girls” in 23 Parts on TikTok

October 3rd is known as “Mean Girls” Day for fans of the 2004 movie. Paramount Pictures actually released the movie to TikTok in 23 parts. To think if October 3rd wasn’t directly mentioned in the movie, we may not have “Mean Girls” Day.

Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Seyfried, Lacey Chabert, and Rachel McAdams starring “Mean Girls” | Paramount Pictures

Traditionally anyone who celebrates the unofficial holiday spends the day vigorously quoting the film, written by Tina Fey. Wearing pink (even though it may not fall on a Wednesday) and watching the film are also part of the celebration. “Mean Girls,” stars Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Lacey Chabert, Amanda Seyfried, Fey, Amy Poehler, Lizzy Caplan, and Daniel Franzese. The film is currently streaming on Paramount+, which makes the move to share it for free to TikTok puzzling.

“Mean Girls” follows Cady Heron (Lohan), as she navigates traditional American public school after being home schooled in Africa. The movie as a whole is funny, and has an important message about staying true to yourself. This movie defined an entire generation of young women and inspired its own Broadway musical.

It is interesting to note that the splitting of the hour and 37 minute movie into 23 parts is a traditional piracy method. Now we’re not saying Paramount is using this loophole to get out of paying the actors residuals, but it is a fishy move. The amount of show episodes and movies uploaded to TikTok is multiple parts is very common place these days. Not that we’re endorsing piracy, or anything like that. We just find it interesting a production company would use a piracy method on their own product.

Paramount is set to release a musical movie of “Mean Girls,” based on Tina Fey‘s Broadway musical adaptation, on January 12th, 2024.
