Briana Middleton (“The Tender Bar”) is the first star to be cast in Apple TV+’s upcoming“Metropolis” series. Which comes to us courtesy of “Mr. Robot” creator Sam Esmail and UCP, where he has an overall deal. While Apple only greenlit the series in March 2022, it’s been in development for Esmail since at least 2016.

“Metropolis” the series will be based on director Fritz Lang’s 1927 sci-fi classic, written by Thea Von Harbou. Basing the script on Harbou’s 1925 novel of the same name. Both take place in the highly stylized futuristic city of Metropolis, where the wealthy elite enjoyed a lavish life in a cultured utopia. Made up of comfort and ease in penthouses and pleasure gardens. All while scores of mistreated workers toil with dangerous machinery in the bowels of the city to keep everything running.

Everything changes when Freder (Gustav Fröhlich), a privileged youth, befriends Maria (Brigitte Helm), a rebellious teacher. He soon discovers the grim scene under the city and sees the loss of several workers to an industrial accident. The film adaptation is considered to be one of the most groundbreaking and influential additions to the sci-fi genre.

Plot details are still under wraps for Esmail’s series. But we do know that Middleton will play the lead role of Finnie Polito. Which is an entirely new character not seen in either the movie or novel. So it’s anyone’s guess as to how this new series will play out.

Apple TV+’s “Metropolis” will be executive produced by Esmail and UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group. Along with Chad Hamilton of Anonymous Content.

Currently, there is no release date set for this project. But if you can’t wait to get your fix of Middleton, she will star alongside Julianne Moore, Sebastian Stan, Justice Smith, and John Lithgow in Apple TV+’s upcoming movie “Sharper” which hits February 17th.
