The Original “Home Alone” House on Airbnb, for One Night Only!

It’s a Christmas gift that’s almost too good to be true, but for one lucky person, it will be a dream come to life. As a means of promoting the “Home Alone” remake “Home Sweet, Home Alone“ the McAllister home in Chicago, Illinois is available to rent on Airbnb. The property is open for only one night, but the best part about it all is the rental will only cost you $25.00.

    Airbnb

The actual house used in the John Hughes and Chris Columbus Christmas classic, is located in Winnetka, Illinois and was privately owned at the time of making “Home Alone.” It remained so for years after and was sold back in 2012 for just shy of $1.6 million.

But according to Airbnb, the home is now owned by Buzz McAllister (Devin Ratray). Clearly it isn’t actually owned by a fictional character but “Buzz” is going all out to make this an experience to remember.

One of the amenities listed for the stay is a viewing of “Home Sweet, Home Alone” just to remind you that this is a promotional tie-in. And while the film itself has received pretty atrocious reviews from critics and viewers alike (13% and 16% percent on Rotten Tomatoes), literally everything else about this Airbnb rental is amazing. To complete the film experience, meals are provided including Chicago style pizza and and Kraft Macaroni and Cheese. The lucky guest will also be sent the official LEGO McAllister House set!

However, Buzz notes that his tarantula is also in the home which if you’re anything like me would not only make you too terrified to eat, but also want to burn the home to the ground and run screaming. Apparently there are security guards there though to prevent you from doing this and ensure your safety so Buzz doesn’t have a lawsuit on his hands.

    Airbnb

The most intriguing element of the stay though is where Buzz mentions, that you can “choose your own adventure with a legendary battle plan as a guide.” While I’m not sure entirely what that means, one can only hope it means setting up booby-traps to deter burglars. If that comes complete with stuntpeople or test dummies to deploy the traps against, that would be incredible. Unfortunately it doesn’t go into more specifics there, but it’s not like Kevin knew what to expect when Harry and Marv came a-calling either. Otherwise he wouldn’t have had to rely on his neighbor and a shovel to get out of almost having his fingers bitten off.

As part of this arrangement, Airbnb is making a donation to the Chicago’s La Rabida Children’s Hospital, which lends some honest heart to all of this. The Airbnb site is quick to point out that this is not a contest, so you have to arrange transportation to get yourself to and from the home, but once you’re there it sounds like they’re going to take pretty good care of you and three guests. For $25.00 you can’t really beat that offer, as long as you’re the one lucky enough to secure it.

    Airbnb

The booking opens on December 7th at 2:00 PM (EST) here. Good luck trying to secure it! Remember to bring your toothbrush thats been approved by the American Dental Association.

“Home Sweet Home Alone” is available to stream on Disney+.
